Feeler: HJC AC-12 Carbon Vader Helmet Size L

I'm thinking of selling my helmet since my insurance is covering the purchase of a replacement.

This helmet is HJC's absolute top of the line helmet, the AC-12 Carbon with Vader graphics. It's a size large, and the size can be tweaked to your face shape by purchasing replacement pads and cheek pads if necessary (newenough and other companies sell them).

It's EXTREMELY light (within the top 5 lightest on the market behind a couple of the Shark models last time I checked) and very comfortable. Yes, HJC makes some cheap and shitty models with polycarbonate shells that are 100 bucks. This helmet is composite, expensive, high quality, and in a different class.

This helmet was worn during a crash, but received no impact. It has a very small bit of rubbing on the breath vent from the crash, but it was an instant of sliding, no 'slam' occurred. This helmet is 100% crash safe (I inspected the whole shell for spidering inside and out and, as expected, found none). I would continue to wear this helmet full time if it weren't for the fact that I can get a new one at no cost.

It's a little dirty (bugs and such) in these shots but here are some pics:

In this photo you can see the very slight breath vent damage (the reflection in the shield is just that: a reflection... there is no damage):

This helmet retails for $420. Wholesale you can get it for about $300 since the model is from last spring. Initially I intended to keep it for a backup, but I'm broke so I'm willing to let it go for a fair price. It's in great shape and comes with a clear shield.

Make me a reasonable offer and it's yours. I can facilitate pickup in the Boston area, bring it to a newbury pose, or bring it to the Tony's Track Days in July.

Is the large the same shell size as the medium? Also do you think the graphics are removable or are they clear coated on top?

EDIT: Seems to not be according to newenough's cheek pad listing.

Helmet Size Cheek Pad Size Shell Size
    XS 25mm Small
    Small 30mm Medium
    Medium 25mm Medium
    Large 30mm Large
    XL 25mm Large
    XXL 20mm Large

If the helmet received no damage in the crash, why is the insurance paying for a replacement?

Correct. Small & Medium share the same shell size and Large, XL, and XXL share the same shell size.

As I said in the original post, the helmet was damaged in the crash.

The graphics are under the clearcoat.

Yup you guys have got it. The shell is the large shell size. The fit of the helmet could be loosened up, but not tightened.

The damage is a little bit on the breath vent below the shield.

Capisce? Sorry if I wasn't clear enough.

Helmets just aren't the kind of thing you buy used. If you really need the cash I'd suggest keeping this one and selling the new one.

Plenty of people buy used helmets. It's just at a pretty big discount.

What you suggest is certainly the best idea financially... but the new helmet is one I've wanted ever since it came out. Reason is going by the wayside on this one

    NESR price $140?

Would it be bad of me to get this and offer it to a friend who does not have a quality helmet?

Or maybe raffle it off at my bike night to try and stress the importance of good gear?

Damn if only it was my size or adjustable to my size I'd snatch it up in a heartbeat.

I will have this helmet up at the TTDs with me if anyone wants to try it on and maybe buy it.

I'd still like $140 for it otherwise I'll just keep it as a spare, it's a $425 helmet. If someone needs a lid though I think that's a good deal for someone to get into a nice lid so I'll let it go for that.

It's just the vent. I'm sure you could get a replacement part for it if it bothers you.

You can also get different size cheek pads if you want a larger size. I don't think this shell size is meant to go for smaller sizes with a cheekpad change though, as was said above.
