(free) Husky electric jack HB4500 - broken internal gear

I did something stupid a while back. The battery on my trailer died. I needed to unhitch. So I put my impact to the electric jack to make it easy on me but forgot to set to manual. In the process I busted whatever internal gearing it has.

If you’re willing to fix it, it’s yours for free. Otherwise, it’s going to the dump Saturday. You pick it up in Marlborough MA.

Dayumn! If you were closer, I'd grab it. A friend of ours just replaced gears on his jack. This would be good to grab just in case...

BTW - I can't remember where he got parts, but the complete kit he got was only $50 or so. It came with everything he needed.

Would you mind finding out where he got his parts?

I'll ask when I see him tonight. He's not the computer type, so I'm guessing he just went to one of our local RV places.

I'm sure you've tried the Google machine already?

I'll take it; certainly can take a stab at fixing. I'd have to pick up tonight or tomorrow before noon though. I'll PM you.

Fixing it is a pipe dream for me. I have a lot going on. It’s yours. I’ve sent you a text.

Thx again Isaac. Since I mentioned I'd post whatever I found: already fixed. One of the intermediate gears sheared a drive pin. Machined a replacement & she's now good as new.

What kind of chuck jaws are those? Is that a copper covering or something?

Just home-made soft-jaws. I make them out of copper pipe - just anneal with a torch and bend into shape. Better than fumbling with shim strips.

Interesting. Does that cause any issues with concentricity of the part? Or are you making parts from larger stock usually so this isn't a concern?

Concentricity isn't a problem when doing new ops from new stock in 1 shot. Repeatability is a different story. If 2+ ops on a part (or starting w/ an existing machined part) then you're usually gonna want something better. But all depends - even with those soft jaws I still get w/in 3-thou repeatability; its why they are # matched and for some stuff that might be OK.
