2008 SV650 naked, 5439 miles, $4500 (western MA)

The SV is sold.

I didn't realize the craigslist posting had expired. I reposted, but it's not up yet; here's the text:

Last Fall I decided to get out of motorcycling (I got a Miata instead) so I'm selling my SV650. Has 5439 miles. Was garaged. I purchased it new at Cycle Design in Spring of 2008 and I had the 4,000 maintenance done there (I did the 600 miles maintenance at the garage where I work with some help of an experienced mechanic). I have the receipts for everything.

Was never raced or taken to the track. It's a fantastic all around bike. Comfortable upright position, fast, lightweight, and maneuverable. Has Motosliders frame and singarm sliders installed.

Never been crashed, though I tipped over at 1 MPH in my parking lot one night after work (it was my fault... I was fatigued and I should've been more careful). Did no damage (glad I had the Motosliders on it). There are minor scuffs on the Motoslider frame slider on the right side and on the edge of the right brake lever (you can't see them unless they're pointed out).

The only other things noteworthy are that the rear tire will need to be replaced soon and there is a Flying Spaghetti Monster Pirate Fish decal on the plastic front wind deflector that I'll remove (you can see it in the photo).

Will sell before bike is sold:

- Joe Rocket Phoenix V4 mesh jacket blue size XL never used; still has tags on it ($120 new; asking $60)
- Shoei X11 size L Bostrom helmet, used one season almost always with the headliner ($550 new; asking $250)

Will sell with bike or after it's sold:

- Tourmaster Response Sc riding boots size 10 (used one season, $110 new; asking $60)
- Olympia Touring jacket (shell with vents and removable liner) size 48/36 ($290 new; asking $130)
- Olympia Airglide Mesh Overpants (with padding and removable liner) size 34 ($200 new; asking $100)
- Rapid Transit Recon 19 Magnetic Tank ($80 new; asking $50)

Some of these items are new (I bought online and realized afterwards the size was wrong) and some were used for one season.

Last I knew the SV had been discontinued and replaced with Gladius.

I just checked their site and I don't see a naked model past 2008, but I do see a newer faired model. I didn't realize they had reintroduced it so I removed the line from the craigslist post about 2008 being the last year.

Sorry to hear you're getting out of riding. I have a friend who would be perfect for your bike, but I know he needs to sell his Ninja 250 first, so let me know if the bike is still available in a month.

Why getting out of riding?? Keep the bike and the Mazda. You can never have too many toys.. I bet next year you will be looking for another bike after not having one in 2010

Many reasons:

[1] Not much time to ride and I don't like paying registration and insurance for something not getting used.

[2] Motorcycling has been detrimental to my bicycling habits and I could use more exercise.

[3] My mom passed away last fall, which got me thinking about what life would be like for my family if something happened to me. Though I know (objectively) that motorcycling is simply one of many risks, I (subjectively) felt like it might be time to quit while I'm ahead.

[4] The novelty wore off somewhat. The constant wind noise has always bothered me (earplugs/headphones help, but only a little) and I've grown tired of taking the time to gear up for every ride (jacket, over-pants, boots, gloves, earplugs/headphones, helmet). Also, I use only full face helmets for safety reasons, but I abhor them (too hot, feel like I'm inside a fishbowl).

Individually, none of those things detract *that* much from the joy of riding, but taken as a whole I realized that I'd rather just jump in the Miata and throw the top down. It's not as exhilarating as a bike in terms of acceleration or road feel (I especially miss leaning), but is still loads of fun. Running it through the gears is a blast, drifting never gets old, and it's more convenient and open (vs riding with a full face helmet).

Having written all that, perhaps I'll get another bike at some point (possibly an adventure tourer).

Well, it's a somewhat sad day; I sold the SV. I started her up this morning for the first time in a while and took her up the street... Wow I almost forgot how much fun riding is . An hour later someone bought her.

I'll miss her as well as the people I met on this board. I especially enjoyed the group rides.

I got to go on one last ride yesterday as I delivered the bike to the buyer (nice guy, BTW) out in eastern MA. Was a positive way to end my SV650 experience.
