Ok Hawk guys, since there are a couple in this thread. Why does my Hawk all of the sudden hate me? I've ridden the bike sparaticly for a few years now. It's always the same routine. It sits for months and then I hop on and ride it. Worst case is the battery is dead and needs the jump pack, or it turns over for a bit and fires. Today I had Keith coming to pick it up. So I went out to start it. Dead battery, dead jump pack. No big deal. I throw the pack on the charger and start pulling all the street stuff. Keith shows up I put the jump pack on and all it does is turn over. I figure maybe the gas is just old so I hit it with starting fluid. No bang, no anything. Just keeps turning over. So obviously I have no spark. What should I check out first? Could the cdi box just shit the bed? Fouled plugs from sitting? Did I loose a ground pulling the lights? I'm at a bit of a loss since it ran great a couple months ago. I parked it and it's just been collecting dust in the garage. Could I have upset the Honda gods since I just sold my last Acura after owning nothing but for the past 10 years and now I bought a Camaro? Or is it just my dumb luck and the story of my life???
P.S. Gino if you could just mentally fix it from your house that would be great. You can do that with Hawks, right?
Clean the carbs.
and if he didn't buy it i will. :D
Guessing it is a carb issue. this new gas screws everything up.
But I sprayed starter fluid in and it didn't fire. I know that's a bush league way to do mechanical work. But I thought if starter fluid doesn't get a bang it's a spark issue.
Did you check to see if there was enough gas? One of the resident hawk experts recently made that mistake... Check for spark if you must, but clean the carbs. Really clean the carbs. Especially if it hasn't been run on a regular basis. Save the starting fluid for pyrotechnic displays.
Like I said, no biggy stuff happens It was a nice drive, took my dogs with me, no traffic... . see what you can do and let me know.
Funny thing about motorcycles. They prefer gas over varnish lol. She fired right up once I put new gas in and cleaned the carbs. Weird
Ethanol is the devil!
You ain't kidding. I have to clean the carbs good on my street bike every winter and she's ridden almost daily.
Thanks hawk support group. I would have been chasing an electrical problem that didn't exist.
SOLD!
Thanks everyone for the interest. And thanks again hawk guys. I would have been chasing electrical gremlins and pulling my hair out.
Hahaha. Yes you did.
