    New Litter Ready!

German Shepherd puppies will be ready by the weekend. Typical Stoneman GSD puppy thread: strong working lines, both parents Schutzhund titled. As in other GSD for sale posts, these are a hardy breed that will take a strong will to turn into house pets. These are NOT show dogs, they are ready & willing to work and will NEED a purpose and goals...

If you have little or no experience with working dogs, these probably are NOT for you...

    Re: New Litter Ready!

Beautiful dogs. I had a male GSD for 3 years. He also was from strong working lines. I was inexperienced and didnt understand what it would take to keep Max a happy house pet. He was perfectly trained and super well behaved and very protective. An amazing dog. His lack of 'purpose' as Stoneman put it, was his (or my!) major fault. He ended up biting the wife and my daughter. He was 120lbs, they were afraid. We had to rehome him, which was next to impossible due to his bite history.

Why do I tell this? Hopefully to avoid this happening with any of you...

Well put! Basically what I've been getting at with these threads. I'm not saying it can't be done - ours is from the same lines and we've made her a good pet. But it takes A LOT of work with these types of lines and you will STILL have a very protective dog. It's up to you to harness that...

Great example with ours is she'll scare the shit outta you when you try to enter. If you've got balls enough to see through that, she'll be your best friend while you're here. Try to leave though and forget it. Full on rip-your-balls-off terror bitch from hell. NO ONE leaves unless SHE says it's okay. We've never been able to break her of that one...

And their prey drive is through the roof! She'd go after the ducks in our lake if we'd let her. Great with DOGS her size, horrible with any other animal larger or smaller than her. She's just assume killing them to be safe...

As so much as a leaf falls in our neighborhood, she'll be sure to let everyone within a three mile radius know about it. We're lucky in that we're the only year 'rounders on our road. But when the neighbors are here, they love the fact that absolutely no one gets down our road without her informing everyone...

On the other hand, she spends most evenings on the couch with her head resting on the kids' or wife's lap, and often thinks she's a lap dog...

    Re: New Litter Ready!

They breed great dogs!!! +1 to Ken and Laura, all of the people at the working dog club I have been bringing my dog to knows about them. Show up to Stoneman's for a bike week weekend, and go home with a dog, WTF! It was a setup I tell ya!! But man is he a great dog, just wants to play and please. Not a big barker like Stonemans dog, but he sure lets you know if something is around. He was also almost close to a year old when I got him to, so the training is taking a bit longer too. Here are a couple of pics of my puppy that I got from them this past summer. And he won't let me go to bed without jumping on the bed and giving me lots of kisses before he retreats to the foot of my bed for the night. But this is what he likes to do for fun, as well as chase tennis balls till he drops.

Sorry for a off-top but an advice against tennis balls as a toy. The synthetic fibers will wear off the enamel of the dogs teeth
