Re: (NOT MINE!) 1996 900SS/CR in VT on ADV

    Copy-paste
I have a 1996 Ducati 900ss/cr with 9,7xx miles in very nice condition that is regrettably for sale. age seems to be creeping up on me, so it pretty much just sits on the paddock stands plugged into the battery tender while I have been drifting more to my r75/6. just 855 miles on her this season. am on the back side of 60, and picky about all my bikes’ condition. this bike has no track time, no wheelies, never down, etc. very nice. super clean.

belts/valves done at 6k, all fluids changed yearly regardless of miles. it’s beautiful, with perfect fueling. best brakes I’ve ever had, one finger application. i've lightened it a bit and added a few mods. starts and shifts easily, with nice power everywhere. the V-twin torque gives push-back in the seat at 7K that is really is a hoot.

bought the bike in april of 2009, she was pretty much new with just 4600miles on her. off-season fettling coupled with some performance/appearance mods have resulted in a perfect blend of performance and reliability.

    mods:
    Racetech .80kg/mm fork springs
    Barnette clutch pack
Bridgestone BT021 tires (upsized front and rear)
euro headlight switch – allows starting with headlight off
Nicholls sidestand bolt – eliminates auto-retracting sidestand
    +3 Vortex aluminum rear sprocket
    L/P tank bra
    100w H4 headlight bulb
    K/N crankcase breather filter
    Deltran battery tender
emissions hoses/canisters removed to save weight

    maintenance:
6K valve adjustment/new belts done at Vermont Cyclewise
oil/filter changed annually, using only Motul 7100 full synthetic
    brake/clutch fluids changed annually
brake pads, cush drive, wheel bearings checked/cleaned annually
    speedo/clutch cables lubed annually
timing belt and tensioner roller condition checked annually
    clutch plates checked/cleaned annually
reg/rectifier and stator connections cleaned/lubed annually
all panels off for cleaning annually
head bearings lubed at 7800 miles
all service records and receipts on file

    condition:
this bike starts/runs/shifts flawlessly, with perfect fueling. legendary Ducati handling, braking, stability. all electrics and gauges work as they should, zero performance issues. this engine is very strong everywhere, no leaks, a great ride. period tests show 156mph top end, 11.5sec in the quarter and 0-60mph in 3.2 sec. plenty fast enough for most folks I think.

the bike had a few stone chips underneath the fairing that I touched up, and a very small crack in the left-hand fairing from a tip-over into the wall of the PO’s garage. this was repaired on the inside using plastic epoxy and touched up. can’t be seen unless very close.

the bodywork is perfect with the exception of the aforementioned touch-ups/very minor repair. tank is perfect inside and out.

    chain/sprockets are excellant

there are a very, very few minor dots of “staining” on the rear wheel. I really need to pick up a paint pen from Color-Rite but haven’t yet done so.

I found a hairline crack in a frame tube, coming out of the frame gusset weld. not uncommon for 1992-1998 supersport models. I had the crack tig-welded by a professional welder, but feel it would be best to have it redone with a little triangle gusset added. full and easy access by raising the tank and removing the airbox.

New Deltran battery tender, original owners manual, crankcase breather, rear sprocket, emissions canister/hoses, Ducati tool kit, all maintenance records, etc included.

clear title in-hand, and inspected until August of 2013

$3100 OBO, cash. am looking for a carb'd ducati monster, a little more upright riding position is what i need. nearby delivery available gas.

i also have available a near-perfect (one pea-sized dimple, one faint scratch) set of Remus "Grand Prix Racing" pipes for that rumble you like, and a minty Speedymoto "Flow" clutch cover to let the clatter out.
He has pics, if you want them, time to make an account
