    Quote: "i have an 1985 yamaha rz350
    13k miles
prior owner parked it 7 years ago due to a leaky base gasket
i bought it figuring it would be a easy fix (should have been)
but when i pulled the jugs off and 4 of the 8 damned cylinder studs snapped off on me
i tried drilling them out and got 1 helicoiled good - the other 3 the bit walked on me and the hole is off center - so will need a new upper case half or TIG weld and remachine."

Leaky base gasket - could coolant have gotten into the bottom end? Might wind up needing a wee bit more than he thinks.

I wouldn't do any less then splitting the cases and do all the seals anyway. My guess is atleast the crank seals are dried and junk.

7 years, bank on a full rebuild... Tank will probably leak and finding some of the parts is getting tough and pricy!
I have almost finished restoring mine, it's a lot of work!
