NEST Thermostat. 3rd gen (latest). BNIB.

Ordered this for my sister and it turns out she already has one. and I am way past the return period. These retail for $249 on Amazon and ~$200-225 on eBay. Asking $175.

It's the latest/3rd gen unit and is brand new in box, sealed in retail packaging. I have the same unit in my condo and it cut my gas bill by 40%. Plays nice with Alexa and Google Home. Easily pays for itself.

Great thermostats and great price. We have two. Super easy install and setup. Has definitely saved us money.

How did you go about having it installed? Do it yourself or call someone?

I need to install 2 of these but have heard details like a power lead can be slightly challenging.

If you have a 24v tap, it's cake. If you use a 2 wire system, not so cake, though it can attempt to steal power via ghosting.

I installed it in my condo with a modern HVAC system where the thermostat controls both heat and AC with fan. It was a piece of cake, just following the directions that come in the box.

I cannot speak to installing it in older homes with 2 wire systems.

We have a brand new home with a two wire setup for our on demand propane boiler. We have W1 and Rh for wires and it installed with no issues. You can do a comparability check on the Nest website.

Two wire setup here, including actual relays on the furnace, 1st gen Nest is happy as can be.

I would get one if I turned my heat on more than 5 times a year. my apartment has the steam pipes traveling through it for the upstairs apartment. We regularly open our windows to let a little heat out since its so hot.

    How do you power it?
My programmables all need batteries.. which is a pain.

(I have an oil fired hydronic rural person system with 2-wire thermostats)

They have a battery option? I suppose I can google and learn on my own.

Nest Thermostat, Nest Protect and Nest Cam support | Nest

We’ve found that in the vast majority of homes, the Nest Thermostat can charge its built-in battery by power sharing over the regular heating and cooling wires. Few installations require a new common wire to power the thermostat. However, if the system does have a C wire, we recommend using it.
