Re: Big Red: 1962 International Harvester B414 Diesel w/FEL

Wait, are we playing the "good idea, bad idea" game? The part of me that isn't selling this says "No, bad idea. You'll end up maimed via mini bike injury in no time". The part of me selling the tractor agrees but will gladly drink a beer and watch.

Really though, if you want it, let me know. She's ready to jam. It'll take some practice for you to get used to working it, but it's got enough power to do what you need. I'd recommend a box blade for the back to smooth the track once it gets rutted up. With this much weight/power, you could run a 5 footer without issue as long as you aren't trying to smooth out solid granite ledge.

I still haven't fixed the tach cable, but that's on the list for the weekend. Just need to braze the end back on.

Had we had a winter like last winter, this thing would of been sold pretty quickly...... but that's how shit goes.

You are quite the eclectic wordsmith, kind of like Ernest Hemingway meets Larry Flint.

I love this rig and ad. I will be sad for myself and jealous of the new owner when this sells.

    That is all.

New starter in it means she should be set for another 54 years. Tach cable is fixed.

Ready to go to a new home anytime anyone is sick of using a snowblower.

The ease at which she started after laying dormant all winter is laughable. MAYBE a second on the starter.

Ready to push, pull or demolish. Going on CL this weekend.

That's not frivolous at all! Just think of all the hours shoveling you just saved.

Just got my quote back on the Husky tractor. With "attachments" I'm looking at over $5k. This looks better and better.

This probably isn't comparable to a zero-turn mower. Well, maybe it is. Depends how you define "zero turn", ha ha ha.

In reality though, it is NOT a lawn mower. Maybe with a brush hog, but that would only be for field duty. Lawn it would crush in no time.

Re: Big Red: 1962 International Harvester B414 Diesel w/FEL

Yeah, I get that, especially with the Ag tires. Here is what I'm looking at:
    Husqvarna Riding Lawn Mowers GTH52XLS

It had a fabricated steel deck, locking diff, and I'd be getting a 42" box scraper and 46" plow with it. That said, those "attachments" are very much light duty.

I can get a nice 3 pt 72" mower deck for around a grand. To satisfy my curiosity, can you let me know what the tire sizes are on this beast? I'd like to price a set of turf tires for it and see where my total investment would end up. Class II 3 pt opens up a lot for future projects. I have about 600 feet of post and rail plus a couple of 16' gates to hang so a post hole auger attachment would easily pay for itself to buy, use, resale. I also have 2 driveways totaling a few thousand square feet that are currently 3/4" blue stone, I'd like to scrape it up to use elsewhere and have them both concreted. Anyway, you get it.

I still have my craftsman riding mower with a 38" deck and a new 22" push mower to do the stuff close to the house. The bulk of my 2 acres literally is field.

Fronts are 6.00-16, rears are 13.6-28.

Tires are EXPENSIVE for something like this. Not just purchasing, but getting them mounted.

Re: Big Red: 1962 International Harvester B414 Diesel w/FEL

Yep, just looked them up and it's cost prohibitive. About $700 per tire for the rears and my local equipment guy will do on site install for $200 per wheel....for a standard trouble free install. Ok. Fuck. It pains me, but I'm out on this. GLWS.

    Duncan,
You're gonna need that thing for the lumber that's headed your way in a few weeks.

Replace the fronts this year and do the rears next tax season.

If you are looking for a turf friendly machine, this isn't it.

You'd be better off with a useless homeowner toy. Just make sure it's 2wd, don't want to get stuck!

    CL it goes.

BX series Kubota or even a B series might be just what Duncan needs. Can drive on lawn without 8k lbs of weight crushing it.

The 2wd part was just the normal running joke.
