You way want to double check that, I'm pretty confident that only handguns have to go through an FFL

2 residents of different states always require an FFL as far as I can tell.

The difference is a handgun HAS to be transferred from an FFL in the buyer's home state. A long gun can be transferred by an FFL in ANY state where it's legal. Given this is MA and NH it would most likely have to be done in NH.

What fees are generally associated with transfering through an FFL?

And who normally pays that? Buyer/seller?

That's something that's really between the two parties to decide for themselves.

I typically expect to pay the fee when I'm the buyer since the check is being done on me. I include that in the price I'm willing to pay.

Re: Ruger LC9 and Marlin .22

Thanks for the info. Two main reasons I'm searching for a 22 is 1) to teach my kids (7 & 13) how to shoot & properly handle a 'real' rifle, and 2) vermin hunting. The rifle advertised here is toward the high end of what I wanna spend, but another $20-30 pushes that total just a bit high...

Since the sale would be from MA, to NH, the laws of the sale are determined by NH. The handgun can be transferred from Marco to Jay at a NH FFL, no MA FFL is needed. Post 7 in this thread explains it.

Right. Not sure where I said a MA FFL needed to be involved though? In any guess, regardless of state, these two are a good deal for someone.

Edit: Oh I see. I meant residents of two different states needed to use an FFL, not two FFLs. I guess that could have been a little clearer.
