Unfortunately, I don't prepare S Corp returns anymore - only individuals and sole proprietorships.

What if you want your taxes done incorrectly? Asking for a friend. :naughty

Sell me on you vs Turbotax Home and Small Business

I'll do that, as CPA's are notorious bad at selling.
Both my wife and I are CPA's, neither of us are tax experts. She does our return and a number of family returns through turbo tax.
However, if some complexity begins to develop, she's quick to recommend greater expertise.
The advantage of a live, local CPA is exactly that, live and local. Anyone who is working on wealth building over the long term needs:
an independent investment advisor not on commission or AUM fees
a cpa
estate / gift tax expertise
these don't have to be 3 separate people, but it's probably at least 2.
These are investments in relationships and advice, not expenses for the "tangible" service.

That credit should be adjusted for market conditions! :spit:

SteveM answered it well, and I'll add my two cents anyway:

Having a CPA prepare even your simple return brings actual logic (vs. programmed logic) into the equation. As lives get more complicated and returns get more complex, it makes more sense for many people (who don't otherwise have the time, patience, or desire to fully understand the tax regulations) to have a CPA prepare their returns to ensure the lowest tax burden possible.
Additionally, while TurboTax, etc, usually have a call center you can use if you have questions, or an H&R Block office you can visit, the person helping you is frequently just a person trained in using that software; not one trained in preparing tax returns.

Good tax guys are priceless, when I was a CPA audit manager, I developed a VERY effective way of increasing my tax competency, ALWAYS buy a couple of rounds for the tax department.
