Need your taxes done? Correctly and quickly?

EDIT: 2021 discussions start at Post #81

I am a CPA (certified in CT) and would like to offer my services to prepare your 2021 tax returns. Preparation of a Federal (Form 1040 with standard deduction) return and a state (with standard deduction) return is $135.00 for an individual, or $250.00 for couples. Any additional services or Forms, including the use of itemized deductions, will be performed at additional cost depending on their complexity. For you New Hampshire folks, $85 for the Federal return only (single; $195 for couples).

If you refer someone to use my services as a new client this year, I'll give you a $25 credit (or refund) on your 2021 tax prep!

Please e-mail me at WCoolahan@gmail.com, or shoot me a PM, to discuss the preparation of your 2021 tax returns. I'm happy to provide references upon request. The sooner you file, the sooner you get your refund!

    Edited 3/9/21 to clarify fees

Free bump for Bill, He did mine and the Mrs. last year because we bought a house, we're not married and inherited a kid mid year so they were complicated to say the least. He took care of everything super fast, correct and got us an awesome refund.

Re: Need your taxes done? Correctly and quickly?

I'm curious, whats the difference between going to a CPA rather than paying the $40.00 and using the tax software ?

Speaking in terms of a non-complex filer.
    Simple job, simple income, etc..

I'm just asking because I'm curious.

Re: Need your taxes done? Correctly and quickly?

If you're an EZ filer, it honestly wouldn't make much sense for you to have your taxes prepared by a CPA if you'd rather use some software. However, "you" could always make a mistake when answering the questions the tax software asks (or just skip it because you don't understand it), and/or fatfinger a key, and/or miss a deduction/credit because the software didn't ask you the question. Having a CPA prepare even your simple return brings actual logic (vs. programmed logic) into the equation. As lives get more complicated and returns get more complex, it makes more sense for many people (who don't otherwise have the time, patience, or desire to fully understand the tax regulations) to have a CPA prepare their returns to ensure the lowest tax burden possible.

Can I just give you 5 bucks for being a dead sexy muthafucka? Would that be a tax deductible donation?

Petey - you most certainly can donate $5 to that cause, but I don't believe it's deductible

Grandpa - I don't know what type of coyness you're trying to imply, but satisfaction is guaranteed

Re: Need your taxes done? Correctly and quickly?

There was some certification that someone mentioned that's even better than CPA to get taxes done.. what is it?

I didn't see you mention MA.. so we're out of luck? My wife and I have a more complicated matter, but every single "referral" from friends end up ... being unanswered. I even asked a few of them a few months after last tax season to get things going earlier.. and no response.. bummer!

Re: Need your taxes done? Correctly and quickly?

The other certification you might be thinking about is "EA", enrolled agent.

The is no certification better than a CPA, but filers should choose a preparer to meet their individual needs.

An experienced CPA, with an MST (Master of Science in Taxation) preparing a basic 1040 with normal deductions, invetments and dividends is a bit like a shooting a fly with a .45.

Or as we say around here, you'll never use all that power!

I've been a CPA since 1985, but I was never a tax specialist and do not actively practice.

I only called out NH specifically because they have no state income tax. The rates preceding the last sentence in the first paragraph would apply to any other state. In other words, I'd be happy to do your taxes!

Feel free to PM me your question. I certainly don't know the answer to everything, but I'll do my best to answer it whether or not it brings in business. Being nice always helps

Still accepting new clients... All W-2s, 1099s, etc, should have been mailed out by 1/31; so if you don't have your documents yet, they should be coming in the next week!

Re: Need your taxes done? Correctly and quickly?

You can deduct dues and initiation fees you pay for union membership.

You can also deduct assessments for benefit payments to unemployed union members. However, you cannot deduct the part of the assessments or contributions that provides funds for the payment of sick, accident, or death benefits. Also, you cannot deduct contributions to a pension fund, even if the union requires you to make the contributions.

You may not be able to deduct amounts you pay to the union that are related to certain lobbying and political activities.

Yes - you do have to itemize to deduct union dues (and nearly all unreimbursed employee expenses). And you can only deduct dues to the extent they exceed 2% of your AGI. Schedule A, Line 20.

    !!!!!!!

Have Bill do your taxes. Plain and simple. I was hoping for 1 to 1.5k back at best. Everybody loves a text saying your return is over 3k....well worth the MINIMAL fee he charged. Well worth it!!!!!!

Needless to say I'll be paying his tab next time we're out!

I need to file in MA and NH plus I own property that generates rental income.

Is that considered a difficult return??

Not too difficult for me to handle, but it definitely would not stop at the $125 base rate, unfortunately. I'd guess between $250-$350, depending on the complexity of the dual state returns and how good of records you've kept on the rental property.
