100+ mph tickets - then what?

Every year there are news stories of guys riding 100-160mph before being stopped by police. Name, picture and details are posted. There was the guy who taunted the MSP, the dude who got shot off an ATV last February, and several very high speed chases on Rt 93 in NH.

    But then what?

For example: Police: Marshfield motorcyclist clocked at 130 mph - News - The Patriot Ledger, Quincy, MA - Quincy, MA

Bunch of charges, including reckless driving, but no news of what happened to him? This seems typical, just curious as what these guys actually wind up with: license suspensions, fines, ?

If you got no criminal record most get away with 1 year probation, and some fines, 60-90 day licenses suspension.
If you are a low life they probably get a free apartment, more EBT cards and some sort of “raise”

This probably isn't the best example for what you usually see. This wasn't the highway, and it wasn't just speeding. He ran from the cops, and was doing it on a residential road at 9pm.

The cynical answer to your question is the news doesn't usually follow up on any stories. Convicted, innocent, plea bargain whatever it doesn't matter. They just run the headline, let people presume guilt, and be done with it. Easier for the reporter to check the daily police logs, quick Q&A with the officer and they've got an article. If you want this to change, tell people to stop reading and stop talking about this type of lazy, sensationalist journalism.

In my experience also, the faster you go, the less likely a ticket. The cops love to scream though.

I go to the court house look around

see a law office walk in and ask if they do traffic, pay them

many times its just reduce to like 79, costs about a $1000 but many go away

I had 3 tickets from a cop that seemed crazy and it got tossed, I had to give $150 to the

Re: 100+ mph tickets - then what?

It's not exactly my proudest moment, but I was arrested for being clocked at 122 in a 65 in my big turbo SRT-4. Given that I had no priors, and being lucky that I had a neighbor who was a former assistant DA, I was coached to contact the DA to try to cut a deal.

In the end, I was able to do everything via paperwork, never had to appear in court. Instead of reckless driving and possibly losing my license, he knocked it down to an "Excessive Speed" charge, which I had to plead guilty to. I ended up paying $300 in fines, and because of a loophole in the Vermont state code, I was only given 2 points on my license.

It may be that I got off easy all because of my neighbor, I'll never really be sure. What I do know is I pretty much immediately parted out and sold that car afterwards. I definitely learned my lesson.

Can't find the thread (pretty sure it's deleted), but a 23yo on Gixxer.com was arrested in Michigan for speeding 130mph, evading police, and some other charges. He stated he only had 2-3 speeding tickets in the last few years, and seemed uncorned about the likely consequences.

Opinions varied, from $3-10,000 in lawyer fees and a year license suspension, down to pleading out to a speeding ticket. Realized I didn't really know what happens to these cases in MA and NH, even though the initial arrests garner a lot of attention. Not wishing ill on anyone....

True story. Got caught racing a car off the line at a stop light maybe hit 125 rolled off car(Camaro) went wizzing past. I see blues in my mirror slow down he flys by and bags the Camaro he jumps out and flags me down. Dude in the Camaro starts yelling at me about how he never been beating like that before. So ok i guess i have no story now, anyway get ticket for racing. need to go to court. oh and this is long before computer systems. i realizedi am fucked and am going to lose my license.! So before the court date i go to the registry and get a duplicate license telling them i lost mine. Court takes my license for 60 days i hand them the duplicate, and keep my real one. Still drove and even got pulled over a few times. Warnings only and never a hint of issues with the cops. Could never get away with that today!!!! ah the good old days...

Re: 100+ mph tickets - then what?

In NY my friends kid got like 3 tickets, racing,
    speeding, reckless

He went to the DMV for a license and the only thing he used a different middle initial and he got a new license

Back when I was young adult I out ran a county cop, and 5 other locals from 2 towns on an rd400
I was doomed until they blocked the road with 2 cars leaving a 4 foot gap,

A day later I am back in town with a rattle can black paint job

The funny part is I went passed my fire house (volunteer) like 3 times and they were waving

i heard of a guy in worcester with something similar in $8000 lawyers fees, another few thousand in court fees, forced to take beginners riding class, 1 year probation and 90 license suspension. also heard he really became a responsible driver and rider after that.

Guy in my msf class this weekend is all like I know everything about bikes...I have 2 of them...

Another student asks then why are you here?
