Nobody in the class likes him. It's histerical.
2 DWIs you should not be able to drive/ride for a decade.

There was a convo about this on Maine car meets recently, and for first-time offenders it sounds like most got away with a hefty fine (high $xxx) and temporary suspension. Being cuffed and impounded are definitely on the table though if you get the right cop.

I know a few people who have been tagged doing stupid, stupid things like 140+ and three digit wheelies and just got scolded. Small town Maine it all depends on who you know.

Problem is, take away license for a decade and they will just drive illegally and the chance of something bad happening just got bigger. DWI is serious business but I'm betting a lot of multiple DWI's are people with serious alcoholism. Rehabilitation is possible and there should be a path for those who can pull their shit together. Not sure but in Maine multiple DWI's and you lose your license for 2-3 years, then after that can only drive with a BAC machine installed in the vehicle for a long time. I think that makes sense. Not an easy issue at all, too many good people die from drunk drivers, I knew a few myself.

Speaking as someone with an impeccable record here, but have seen really good people struggle with alcoholism and fight hard as hell to overcome it. There are ways to get the back on the path and be smart about it at the same time.

Everything is just a business. And honestly it’s sickening. We have the technology to make every single car undriveable if you are drunk. We have the technology to make every single vehicle required to pull over shut off if you are swerving or if your behavior indicates you may be drunk. And we have had that technology for a very long time. But no, we don’t want more “more control” plus it’s a very profitable business for everyone involved. Police, lawyers, courts, etc.

Do we need to go into details of a system that can detect road hazards and weather conditions?
Or can we just understand there’s a difference between driving on a dirt road vs a state highway for example?
I’d like to believe we are smarter Than that

Indeed, everything is a cash grab and the world is a shitshow.

I can’t tell if you’re advocating for or against these systems.

Re: 100+ mph tickets - then what?

So, so for a licensed rider with a minor ticket or two, speeding over 100mph in MA would necessitate a lawyer (say $3,000 - $7,000); pleading out to a lesser charge; some period of license suspension? That seems lenient in that ai know Car drivers who’ve gotten one year suspensions.

The insurance surcharges for what - 6 years? - might be more $ than the initial fees and fines.

Re: 100+ mph tickets - then what?

Depending on the charges usually speeding over 100mph comes with driving endanger or some sort of other criminal charge.
A lawyer is almost a must. Not really for the awesome defending skills, but for use of network...
License suspension is not always the case. You may luck out if you have a clean driving record. But you will pay some sort of fines.
Insurance surcharges in MA I beiebe are 7 years.

I recall a lecture that a few of us got for doing warp 4-warp 5 in a 30 (I was doing 115± on my SV and the guys on liter bikes were a half or more mile ahead of me, I can only guess their speed) on a Sunday morning ride thru a town local to me, then after the lecture, a finger pointing directly at me, as I had been stopped in the same speed zone by the same LEO just 3 or 4 days earlier, telling me I "really" had to slow down before he proceeded to tell the group he wanted me to ride lead, go figure

There are rumors a bunch of NESR people were stopped by a roadblock in VT at one point. There may or may not be any truth to those rumors...

One of the guys in YB had a radar jammer on his bike. Three of them blew threw a VTSP speed trap on Rt 100 at supersonic speed. The LEO set after them, and they pulled over, miles later.

He was mightily puzzled that his radar had no return. Bottom line, he asked them, “When will you be leaving Vt?” And suggested “Now” was the correct answer.

I had a VT trooper make the same suggestion to me long time ago in a totally unrelated incident

So why do you think they let off egregious speeding? Just easier for them? You're not getting off for doing 80 on 91. or 45 in a 30.

    ha,

slow guys in the group: how fast to do you ride when going through a town.

not slow guys: the speed limit, never speed through town.

slow guys in the group: oh, a bunch of guys got stopped some sort of road block we were going triple digits and got away.

not slow guys: unbelievable, why wouldn't you slow down in town?

slow guys in the group: were trying to catch up

not slow guys: no more group rides for us.

I think more like 15 or 16, the ride that "Degsy might have been there" was before the Tolga the rat ride, was 16 or 17 years ago. We didn't run from the cops and we were not chased. We stopped for a break and the LEO caught up with us

My brother and I discovered the North East Kingdom in 1th mid 1970's the entire VT state police was 21 guys total

North of Montpelier you could fly all day even 20 years ago you pretty much could do anything

Today they have 332 members and about 40 dispatchers, that's a big budget to feed with fines

And show a profit for the politicians, bleed the tourists white
