    35 million is not enough

What the Fuck? The United States gives $35,000,000.00 towards relief the tsunami victims ,and other countries who donate little to nothing bitch we're not giving enough. We also offered some military aid (which they have to consider? )(again WTF).
I didn't see any money from other countries come in for Florida's hurricanes. None for the flooding out west. Minimal amounts for the 9/11 victims.
We give money out hand over fist and get none of it back when it's time to repay the "loans". How about we keep all our money and our military here in the U.S. and let the rest of the world fight it out.

When we went to Iraq we were wrong , we are told we are NOT the world police. When we give money for relief it's not enough. evidently we are not world police , but we are their bank.
Don't get me wrong I think we should help , but we shouldn't have to carry the whole burden. The other countries should put up or shut up.

There now I feel better. (ok a little better I'm still pissed)

Agreed!!!! I get so sick and tired of all the bullshit comments and reluctance to help the U.S. whenever we need it, but whenever any other country needs help, the U.S. is the first and largest contributor. I have said it before and I will repeat; GET THE USA out of the U.N. and let Donald Trump take over the real estate and turn it into a nice apartment/office building!!!! The U.N. is filled with nothing more than a bunch of America-hating fat-ass bureaucrats and they will never change their attitude toward us until they are forced to operate without us. Let's see how quickly they change their tune when they are forced to operate without the generosity of the USA!!!!! Too bad we don't have any American politicians with the balls to actually boot the U.N. out.

It was a tragedy, and we will help, that's the bottom line. No matter how much we give, or how many troops we send to help we will always be looked at as the Evil one's. I say help the countrues that need it, and again I say FUCK the UN.

I am with you on this but I do have to say that the comments weren't just directed toward us

Yes, but understand that our initial pledge of $35M is just that, INITIAL!!!! By the time we have contributed and helped all that we can, I would be willing to bet that our TOTAL contribution will exceed $1 Billion +++!!!!! And, I am NOT counting individual contributions to charities. Watch and see how this thing unfolds. I would have to say that pledging $35M in financial aid, without so much as a light assessment of the situation on the ground in the affected areas is VERY generous.

It's a question of motive. We've spent billions on a war which was suppoedly about liberating a group of oppressed people who clearly aren't quite sure how they feel about our "liberation" efforts, but we cheap out when faced with a scenario where our help is actually needed and would be appreciated.

$100 billion to invade a country, $35 million to aid those suffering from a tragedy. Which was the greater need?

I'm not saying it should be our responsibility to police and aid the world, because I don't think it should be at all. But if we're going to play that role, I think we could do a better job of it. What could $100 billion dollars do for human suffering in the world? A lot more than we've done with it so far, I'm willing to bet that.

Gawd I sound like Sally Struthers

I feel that issues such as how much $$ to give to these countries should be put to a nationwide vote.

100,000 people died already. This wasn't a "someone attacked someone else" or anything like that. It had nothing to do with a government or any type of people. I would sure as hell criticize the rest of the world for not giving enough than have more people die and be "thankful" for what was given.

It is disgusting that we pledged less than the average lottery jackpot to help out. We pay our PITCHERS more money. ONE person who plays a frickin GAME. A basketball player got in a fight will loose out on nearly a quarter of that total amount pledged in salary for one year. It is very sick to think that rebuilding the lives of hundreds of thousands of people isn't worth less than a QUARTER of the payroll of our beloved red sox.

And people wonder why the rest of the world hates us.

If everyone in the US payed one extra dollar in taxes (yes, that one dollar that usually goes to the clean election fund), we would instantly have about $293,600,000 to give.

WildBill - I blame Bush for the tsunamis. He ate too much Mexican food, and the resulting flatulence caused an earthquake on the other side of the world, thus creating the tsunami. Its all Dubya's fault.

now you sound like the rest of the world. Why should the us pay for everything? We are giving aid in a variety of way with money up front. millitary aid when and where it is needed and without a doubt we will send food and water and medicines. all of this costs money too. like lrrs167 said the 35 million is without a doubt going to be an "initial" amount.
This is a terrible disaster. the largest in history and it affects almost every country. We are sending aid stop bitching about how much.

Clayton, are you SERIOUS????? Get a grip, dude. You know good and damn well that our *initial* pledge is but a drop in the large bucket that our government will contribute to helping those affected by this disaster. Quit with the European pansy attitude!!! When the dust settles and life returns to normal for all of the people in the south Asia region affected, I'm sure that the USA will have been the largest contributor, in money and resources.

I think we should send over what help we can, but we should remember that just because we're the richest nation on the block does not mean that we caused the friggin tsunami.

Also, these next few days are the most important, trying to help the survivors - there really isn't much we are going to be able to do after about two weeks from now anyway, at that point its up to those nations to rebuild themselves - we have one underway already.

It's a sad commentary when you have a natural disaster of this magnitude being politicized.

btw, the government doesn't pay our baseball pitchers, just thought you might like to know before you continue with that asinine argument.

Did I mention a political party?

    Didn't think so.

I think it's sad that people are getting so worked up about countries that have been devestated with tens of thousands of people dead asking for more help than we initially offered. For once I'm not pinning this on anyone other than the country in a whole.

I think it got started with the Hillman morning show on WAAF bitching that these countries are asking for more money. The argument was "Why should we have to give them money when we won't get anything in return?". Left a pretty rotten taste in my mouth about how some people feel about the rest of the world.
