    AAA Study on Synthetic oil

AAA Spills the Truth on Oil Changes | AAA NewsRoom

AAA found that synthetic engine oils performed an average of 47 percent better than conventional oils in a variety of industry-standard tests,” said John Nielsen, AAA’s managing director of Automotive Engineering and Repair. “With its superior resistance to deterioration, AAA’s findings indicate that synthetic oil is particularly beneficial to newer vehicles with turbo-charged engines and for vehicles that frequently drive in stop-and-go traffic, tow heavy loads or operate in extreme hot or cold conditions.”

They didn't include the fact that you can go further between changes with synthetic so the cost difference is pretty much cancelled out.

We did a long term experiment with two Honda Accord V6's, one on Dino, one Synthetic. We changed at the recommended 7500 mile interval.

At 200,000 miles both engines were fine, and all kinds of other stuff was hosed.

Some synthetics claim to be able to last for 15k when paired with the right filter. I'm currently running that. I think it is Mobil 1.

Want to supercharge your oil filter? Put a couple of rare earth magnets on it. One on the bottom, one on the sides. Open the can at your next oil change and see what your filter has stuck to the insides.
