agreed. but that does not mean religion should be blamed for the bad acts of man. Both religious and non religious people have done bad shit. to blame anyone other than the person who commits said act is just excusism (new word, just made it. deal)

    not even remotely.
here's one for ya; i'm going to have to paraphrase but it is written that , if you work with a blade, see that it is sharp so that you may work with skill, not force.
Anyone who works with a blade will tell you just how true that is. Honestly, its been a long damned day, and i can't be bothered to prove the veracity of the claim. do some reading in Deuteronomy , numbers and Ecclesiastes and get back to me.

you'll notice i didn't say it was ALL great wisdom.. some of it is very dated, without a doubt.

i'm not sure why you are painting me with that brush when i've already told you my beliefs do not fall in line with any established religion.

Some points I've argued just for the sport of it, others as a point of conviction.

With that sort of logic you could find wisdom in a wide range of books, many of which would offer far less horrible shit that you'd have to sweep under the rug with the ridiculous "it's all about the context" arguments. The bible offers no extraordinary wisdom for someone to apply to their life that can't be derived from basic human empathy (which appears to have a completely neural basis).

The more time that passes, the more it becomes outdated, incorrect and unnecessary. Some are accepting as society advances from older beliefs while others hang on to the small pieces that are left true and argue their relevance and importance. I have no doubt that the bible will eventually be categorized as a piece of fiction. Students will be forced to study it in a history class and ask, "People really believed this stuff?"

Fantastic....facinating! Great historical perspective and overall pretty hopeful. I really wish I could talk as calmly as people like him, Dawkins and Cougar! I'm a little too lazy to do the deep dives...but really appreciate those who do!

I'm no longer an ATHIEST....I'm a 'Free Thinker'...

    (Nope....that doesn't work...I really get his dilemna...fak!)
