After seeing that article and video pop up of the father and son who shot and killed some guy over a fucking mattress in the trash, I figured now's a good time to re-read this...

It'''s been a while since I'''ve seen this here. Everyone who carries should read this, get from it what you will. : CCW

Eh, you should be alright. 4 mags should suffice for most of the stages. A 5th would be best but it's not a dealbreaker.

This is, of course, assuming you're running production class which is limited to 10 rounds per mag (doesn't necessarily need to be a 10 round mag if it's legal for you to possess, just loaded to 10.)

Interesting. So 15 round pre-bans can only be loaded to 10. How "stock" do the production guns need to be? I don't have a lot of unmodified hand guns that would be workable for competition.

    Re: Guns...

You can load more if you want, but it'll take you out of the production class and put you in limited or open depending on what else you have done to the gun.

From Understanding USPSA Divisions | Bullet Hole Practical Shooting Club

Production Division is strictly limited to the use of production handguns with actions that are double-action-only, double-action/single-action or striker-fired – mostly in the caliber of 9mm. These are the “duty guns” available from nearly every pistol maker and each of the major manufacturers offers a wide variety of models that meet USPSA Production Division requirements. Stock revolvers may also be used, including the 7- and 8-shot variants.

Shooters may change the sights, add a skateboard style grip tape, and tune the internal parts of the gun, but externally-visible changes are not legal.

While capacity is not uniform across model, caliber or manufacture, USPSA levels the playing field by limiting shooters to just 10 rounds per magazine. Regardless of the round used in Production, the division is scored as a minor power factor. Holsters and allied equipment must be “non-race-type” and be worn behind the forward most point of hip. Most shooters use a standard outside-the-waistband belted holster intended for daily wear, often made of kydex or plastic.
In a regional match, you're probably not going to get any objections if your mods aren't blatantly obvious and giving you a big advantage. Worst case, just run Limited.

Reading that it seems I'd be just fine in production, nothing I've done is earth shattering.

    Re: Guns...

I ordered 2 more mags and another holder. As far as which division maybe I didn’t see a carry optics one on that sight. I could bring a p226 also if this isn’t going to fit in anything. Another question, is there any need for specific ammo. For example steel plates that won’t be knocked down by target 115 grain, only bu using 124 nato or something.

The revolver division is very interesting to me. I tend to shoot my revolver better than anything else, but I would need to get half a dozen speed loaders I think.

Carry optics is a new thing, PDF.js viewer

Same as Production but allows optics.

Revolver is a very low registration usually, you'd dominate.

edit: some people shoot 115 but most are 124 or higher

    Re: Guns...

So I’m finding that carry optics allows full sized mags. Is it different in Mass? Are there any exemption to the 10 round limit for competition? I can ask on nes but I kinda hate that site.

    Re: Guns...

you can go full size mags for competition in Carry Optics. no one there cares about the mass legality of it. I run Production, so 10 rnd max, but for most stages I start with a 17 rnd mag loaded to 11 so I get the 10+1 to start. Just can't do that for a stage that starts unloaded.

You're fine with factory loaded 115gr. My steel challenge loads are so light they just barely cycle the action, and they knock everything down

I’m assuming your sig with optic and empty mag weighs less tha 45oz. Since that’s the weight limit for CO. It should be since it’s polymer and comes from the factory that way, but just thought I’d mention it.

    Re: Guns...

Honestly, for Hopkinton, just bring whatever you feel like shooting.... seriously... fuckin anything... tell them what ya got when you're giving them your 25 bucks at the registration table and they'll put you in the appropriate class. It really doesn't matter. Whatever you don't mind shooting 250-300 rounds through that day.

Most stages can be completed in less than 40 pews.

And any factory load will be fine. I run 147gr subsonic Federal 9mm just because...
It works, it's cheap & shoots fairly soft (but I really can't tell the difference between that & 115).
