Testing will allow us to know if we can safely start removing restrictions.

In other new, my 98 year old grandmothers assisted care facility is on lockdown. Unfortunately a staffer decided to go to FL on vacation two weeks ago, has since returned to work, then tested positive.

If you knew you were contagious would you go to the store? To get gas?

I've left the house twice in the last 2 weeks. If I KNEW I were contagious I wouldn't have.

Am I contagious? Don't know. If I were, perhaps I just infected somewhere between 2 and a dozen people. Who knows?

    Imagine that 300,000,000 times...

I would think the number of hospitalizations trending down would indicate the same. Testing the most sick people seems smarter since they're already in a medical setting and we won't have people who "think" they might have it traveling and potentially exposing others.

I get that testing more people would help removing restrictions a little sooner, but I question if testing everyone under the sun is going to cause more problems then it's worth considering the extra strain on the system it can create in a few different ways.

Edit: It also appears Germany's death rate equals ours with the latest data and the number of new cases/pop there grew faster then ours did yesterday...

Gathering data from hospitals after the fact should give us a better idea numbers wise.

I think more important is the testing of asymptomatic people -- these are the ones spreading it around. My understanding is that this was South Korea's strategy -- test everyone, regardless of symptoms. They found tons of asymptomatic young people running around giving it to everyone. Once they quarantined them, the rate of infection started really slowing down. Our rate of infection is still screaming skyward and so the current strategies don't seem to be working too well.

They should probably start testing everyone in NYC ASAP.

I think this is exactly why we need more, faster tests. Testing symptomatic people is fine, but we need to slow down the people spreading it that aren't even aware they have it.

Widespread, universal testing also lets you show where the hot-spots are (and are not).
In a hot-spot; mandatory lock-down, treat everyone as infected, focus resources.
Not in a hot-spot; do not focus resources, maybe even consider lifting (some) distancing measures.

South Korea is a fantastic example of how this worked.

I'd take 1 false negative out of 100 over the complete unknown we are in now.

Obviously getting resources to bear to provide life saving resources should be job 1. But job 2 or 3 should be widespread, universal testing. Even discussing "opening" our economy is a waste of time until we have testing in place. Our economy simply isn't viable until we have handle on where this is, where it isn't, and where it has been and there already is significant immunity.

Supplies are so scarce that the guy who bought Michael Jackson’s famous glove used it to pump gas today.

Good read. Thanks for posting it. I’ve been having a hard time understanding wtf is going on with testing.

Basically; bureaucracy destroyed our economy. Probably killed some people.

Rhode Island police began stopping cars with New York plates Friday. On Saturday, the National Guard will help them conduct house-to-house searches to find people who traveled from New York and demand 14 days of self-quarantine.
Well truthfully only the quarantining is new, the RI state police probably pull over 90% of NY plated cars on Rte95 on a regular daily basis

Was happy to see 2 days in a row that people that aren't working are taking large group rides and just tightly hanging out at the Alton circle station. Not to mention all the Mass,Conn and NY folks wanting their "camps" opened up to be able to be retarded up here. I'm not a paranoid dude but come on, use some fucking sense. We currently aren't working at our construction sites if the people are up from other states.

That was so cool at the end putting the bike on the worktable. Glad I bought a trials machine. My Montesa has the same forks as Tonys bike. Tomorrow going out for car ride to break up the boredom.

Has anyone researched whether the Covid threat from fuel pumps is real? It’s easy enough to avoid touching the handle directly, but I’m curious.

Holy crap. Went for a short ride last weekend and couldn't believe how many cars were there. It was more like a weekend in fall.
