Is that daily new cases? Missing the key. Also, wish everyone would use per capita instead of absolute numbers.

But in this case, per capita would make us look even worse, because EU has a population of 446M to our 328M.

Today Massachusetts - #6 among states in total C19 cases and 4th per capita - reported zero Covid deaths.

But we’re beginning to trend up again in new cases, yeah?

Yup, Mass is crushing it. The NH Covid site is pretty pathetic in comparison to that daily Mass detail. We're back to normal here in NH as of yesterday. Until we follow Florida, Texas and Arizona back off the cliff. I'm back and forth to Mass a lot and the mask compliance difference seems stark. Does anyone seriously think that that isn't a fairly big piece of the puzzle?

Dont forget CA, locked up pretty tight through this and still had 8k plus cases yesterday. I just got back from there this afternoon, mask use was quite prevalent all over LA. The people not wearing masks were mostly the homeless and “tough guys”.

No doubt. But LA’s density and total population are a fraction of NYC, which had its worst day at just over 10k cases.
There don't seem to be any good answers just yet.

I've been very disappointed with the lack of mask use around here in the NH seacoast area lately. It's a fucking mask. Just wear it. Even if there is a fleeting chance it does anything. A peice of cloth over your mouth. Not exactly the most oppressive ask here.

The MA data has improved a lot in the past month or so, but we must learn from the states that are struggling now. We can't relax too quickly or too much. This includes both government guidelines and especially individual behavior. We have temporarily suppressed Covid-19, not beaten it.

    Re: Nervous yet? covid-19

Having just drove across the country I have 2 observations:

    1) People on the coasts wear masks much more often and are assholes about it
    2) The rest of the states don't wear masks, but are really polite about it

We didn't stop much - few stops for takeout and unobtainable breweries for to-go orders. Pretty common for places to have signs about social distancing, but still have full tables of people not wearing masks. We stayed at hip camps in the middle of nowhere and most of the owners came right up to our window without masks (we had them on) as happy as could be. A significant amount of "oh you must just be passing through, I'd love to casually shoot the shit and hear about your life story, face to face, for 30 minutes" from people without masks was just as expected.

The only place I stopped that didn't really follow this was Boulder: most people wear masks, but all business seemed to be operating at 100%.

What does being polite/an asshole about masks mean, in this context?

It was a comment on how nice people are outside of cities. Also refers to how no one was throwing shade to people not wearing a mask or to people wearing a mask.

    Re: Nervous yet? covid-19

That's what I'm getting at then. I'm squarely in the asshole camp on this one then.

Read a statistic the other day that suggested that if 50% of us wore a mask it would reduce transmission rate (R0) < 1 such that this virus would eventually die out. Imagine that. The virus eventually dies out. No magic vaccine. No masks. No travel restrictions. No decimated travel industry, economic ruin, sky-high unemployment, closed schools and child-care. All that in exchange for a bit of cloth across your face while out in public for a few months. Mind => blown.

Don't fuck this up for the rest of us, wear a mask. Please.

Colin, my post wasn’t directed to you. I’m in the asshole camp as well. I was just making an observation.

I stand firmly with Colin on this one. Wear the fucking thing in any place you’re coming within 6’ of a human not in your direct circle.
This includes the hardware and grocery, but does not include the middle of the woods.

There are no good answers? No the answers are there. People just don’t see them.
The countries who “beat” this shut down, people wore masks, transportation and going out was extremely limited (prohibited in some cases), people practiced social distancing and good hygiene. We (America) didn’t even take this seriously. People still claim that wearing a mask is attacking their freedom. Obviously people still struggling with the idea of washing hands and not licking door knobs in public places. Have you been to Europe? Talk about population density...

Did you see the video is some sort of grocery store saying “I am not gonna wear a mask because I woke up in a free country today”

Those are the assholes to me. Fresh air, plenty of space but give dirty looks because they have a mask on and I don't. Sorry not sorry you're too scared/stupid to understand where it makes sense to wear one and where it isn't necessary. There is plenty of info out there now on this. By all means wear one if you want, but if you're gonna get in my face about it don't expect a civil response.
