as long as it's illegal on the federal level, it will be illegal to purchase medical marijuana with HSA money, even with a prescription

I'm going to laugh if MA legalizes it before the free state of NH.

Yep. Although it might be noted that the problem in NH has consistently been vetoes from Democrat governors.

It should also be noted that those very governors were elected to office by the free state of NH.

I don't like the smell of beer (especially that old stale smell), cigarettes, or cow shit. But that's hardly a reason to vote against it.

Time to poke the bear: For now, that's probably reasonable. But I think it will ultimately be found to have less impact on motorskills. Alcohol has severe motor skills effects and judgement effects that encourage people to lose their risk-perception. I don't know if I believe the marijuana is as dangerous. Concerning? Sure. But to a lesser degree.

I don't know how true this is, but I thought what motivated a lot of drug testing was actually company insurance. It's not so much the employers themselves that care. I also don't know how much longer they can stay their course. IIRC, the FBI and/or NSA was having trouble with talent recruitment in part because they couldn't get people to pass drug tests. I think the same is going to happen with mainstream employment if it becomes legal.

    Tax free via an HSA?

Nah. A consumption tax is way more fair.

I seem to recall someone calling for that here.

You missed the point. When you say:

, you are noting the irony of relatively liberal/over-regulated/bit government MA leading NH on a freedom issue.

I am noting, when I say:
Quote Originally Posted by PhilB View Post

, that this irony is blunted (NPI) a bit by the fact that it is the same ideological group that has made MA what it is, that is also blocking this freedom in NH.

WTF? Taxing pot (or anything else) does not create revenue, value, or wealth; it just transfers money from some people to government. This will, by definition NOT save everyone money; it will cost additional money to those that the tax is applied to.

Yeah. This is supposedly one of those personal freedom/civil rights issues that the left is better about than the right. It's also an issue where those that profess to care about minority rights should be on the legalization side, since the War on Drugs has a hugely disproportionate impact on people of color. But it doesn't seem to be working that way in this area.

The real irony for me is that it's the left that's always been better with personal freedoms and not the so called conservative and small government bias.

That's been true for decades. Liberals tend to be better on civil rights and personal/social freedoms; conservatives tend to be better on economic freedoms and on guns. That's why libertarians exist as a separate category; we favor freedom on all the issues, and thus are neither liberals nor conservatives.

They'll change their tune when they figure out how to make the state money with it. It's how Taxachusetts rolls.

No one is claiming that everyone will always be responsible. Neither I, nor libertarians in general, claim that no laws are necessary. This is what's known as a "straw man".

We favor the passing and enforcement of laws against acts of aggression -- violence, fraud, theft, and property damage. Actual crimes with actual victims.

We oppose the passing and enforcement of laws against acts that are not actually aggression. We oppose the passing and enforcement of laws against "victimless crimes". We oppose the passing and enforcement of laws that exist mainly to control people's behavior, that restrict people based on what other people merely dislike or disapprove of.

If neither MA or MA North can get it passed you'll be able to get your product here in Maine after the vote. Pick up a few guns from hillbillies outside the local Shaws while you're here, no paperwork, background check or tax. 'The way life should be'

    Guns and "product" are incompatible.

Use of product makes you a federally prohibited person.

Baker's opposition to this is strike two for me but he was already out after strike one, failing to reel in Hitler Healey

    F her, F him, and F Deleo.

If you are a politician opposed to the idea pre-vote, you shouldn't be allowed to hide behind the public sentiment you opposed, to swoop in and line your and your cronies' pockets after it passes by butchering it up to suit your corruption and approving some alternate, more restrictive version that is more profitable to you.

The more the voting public is able to educate themselves on these types of issues, the more I like the idea of new law being made this way. Hard to buy/lobby/bribe/contribute to the "foundation of" a majority of the entire voting public...
