Nothing wrong with captialism. It just isn't appropriate 100% of the time. Incentivizing a large incarcerated population for example.

Ya, I realize it isn't exactly a radical idea. When I said that, I was mostly thinking about effective tax burdens and who might benefit appreciably from reduced taxes.

I was also having an argument in my head with what I really think I mean by education. Because I think it needs to somehow address shortcomings in the home life that goes beyond fixing ignorance.

Lol. I actually have one that someone gave me. I didn’t know what to do with it, other than hang onto it for historical artifact type purposes, but if you want it, ping me your address and I’ll mail it to you.
You’re right, it’ll totally look appropriate on a Prius.

For-profit prisons are not capitalism. Capitalism involves voluntary exchanges for profit -- usually for mutual profit.
Funding by forcible taxation is not that. Rent-seeking and getting the government to create "business" for you is not that.

For-profit prisons are an abomination, agreed. But they cannot be blamed on capitalism.

Joking aside, always appreciate your take. Curious where you (and libertarians in general) stand on the defunding of the police. And I mean the reduction in spend on police in favor of other social workers. I assume you like the reduction in police but would rather money not get redirected elsewhere?
Well there are several levels of "better than this" that are possible.

One of those levels is simply re-directing the spending, and I'm in favor of that. Another level is peeling back un-Constitutional laws, and all victimless crime laws, which would result in both a much lower "need" for police and that spending, AND a lower need for many of the social services as well -- a win for everyone except the politicians and the profiteers.

Another level is localism -- get the federal government out of all of that, and devolve these issues down to the states or lower. That doesn't solve everything, but it does reduce the miltarization, shrink the War on Drugs, and get rid of many of the Constitutional issues. States have more leeway, legally, rightfully, and Constitutionally, as to what problems they handle and how. And going to the state level also allows different states to try different solutions, and people to see what works, and they can either choose to implement the best solutions in their own states, or just move to the states that run things better.

Social workers and social solutions can be good answers, but they are often run as badly as the rest of government. So I'd be all in favor of the idea of redirecting police funds to social programs, IF there are mechanisms put in place to evaluate the programs and to fund them on merit and effectiveness, rather than the clusterf we have now. Without doing that, I'd probably still vote for redirection, but more as a way to do less harm with the money than with any confidence it would actually be helpful.

This is my problem with the mindset of state run control, don't like it move. How has that worked out for mass and Cali residents, IMHO states shouldn't have a choice in regards to certain rights. You're not a libertarian at all..

So a federal gun ban overruling state laws would be good by you?

You picked Cali and Mass. and while both have their issues, as all states do, the collective brainpower, innovation and productivity that comes from these states is far ahead of the country as a whole. Are you stating that they are “bad” states and that the people who live in them are stupid?

Would you prefer 50 Wyoming’s, because that won’t create the GDP needed to keep the show running.

Do you have any issue other than the desperate preservation of your God given right to walk around with your pistolas?

As a green card carrying "emigre" there are two states where case law has decided I can have access to a firearm unencumbered by unusual barriers. can you guess which ones?

I'll give you a clue, WY and fucking TX are NOT either of them.
