    2007 XT 225- ? Upgrades...

My kid is away at school up at UMASS and his bike is sitting in my garage . I've rode it around the block a few times to keep it fresh and have wired a battery tender to it for the winter.I have no experience with these enduro bikes and was looking for suggestions on some upgrades etc. I'm hoping to surprise him in the spring when he's back home.I did order Moose hand guards and a new set of brake pads but no clue on what tires are decent or any mods...are these things popular ? Any suggestions would be appreciated...

    I have a 1994 XT225

There aren't a ton of mods for it really. I took the passenger pegs off, since theres no way Id have a passenger with it.

I also run Kenda Dualsport tires

Maybe a vapor pro speedo to replace the analog speedo would be a nice upgrade?

The nice thing about the bike is that it wasn't changed from like 1992 until I think today, so chains, sprockets, brake pads, etc are all DIRT cheap.

Thanks, I got some parts in today..the Moose handguards are pretty sweet.I am leaning towards more dirt tires than street as he ride it around town and offroad with his buddies.I took the thing for a ride today...I felt like a giant on the thing...no top end to speak of...but kinda fun on the bog roads around town.I got a ton of off road gear for him for Xmas and I think I'll let him tinker with it over Xmas break from school.

My wife had one and it was a fun bike. Not worth doing a whole lot to them.

If you want something for trails primarily - then protective items and better tires are the first - and then maybe lower the front sprocket a tooth. Don't spend too much as it would be smarter to sell it and get something better from the beginning (a KLX250 would be a great choice).

the sky's really the limit...there are tons of places that will sell you a wallet full on stuff you might not need

the question is - how much do you want to spend, and is it worth it?

some off the top of my head...
    -hand guards
    -bar risers
-new handlebars (changes the bend and can rise the position)
-aftermarket front/rear fenders (get a supermoto fender to make the bike look newer in the front...but fyi he'll get covered in mud)
    -graphics kit
    -tires, heavy duty tubes
    -skid plate
    -no toil air filter
    -lighter battery
    -re-gear the chain/sprockets
    -exhaust
    -aftermarket seat
    -revalved suspension

like Tony said - anything serious warrants purchase of a better bike...

If he rides a lot off off road, I suggest Kenda K-760 Trackmaster II tires. They are DOT rated, fully street legal, inexpensive, and they last a long time. The only other thing I would suggest (besides hand guards that you already bought), would be stiffer fork springs.
