Re: 2014 PSTR short course schedule

For what it's worth. Many enduro riders run with a headlight and tail light with a single rear brake light switch. Your not going to pass a mass inspection like that, but, it's enough for many who ride very seldom on the road.

I can almost assure you it did not come with a full ds kit. Just a head&tail running light.
IF the state is going to require the full inspection prior to awarding you a plate, there's various options, some pricey, some not so much, for a ds kit.

If I recall, the microfiche is the same for that model in all countries..meaning it came street legal in some countries, so it will show the parts being available.
Your bike "should" have the wires and correct voltage to run lights, and I thought the EXC models came with a headlight and tail light here in the US?
My XC-W200 did not come with any lights when I bought it new, but all the wires were there, so all I did was buy the lights and plug them in. The same 200 in Europe is a EXC200, which comes road legal

Hmmmmm this could wind up being the oft discussed but never happens "Dirty Bastards" group race outing. We always talk about getting everyone to do an offraod race together and this one looks to be a possibility for a lot of us.

Plate for the 300 in hand. A couple of hoops to jump through but relatively painless.
    Still need
    Head and tail light
    Brake switch
    Mirror

Then you're all set for the turkey runs (or enduros). You do not need that stuff for the short courses, jday, or netra hare scrambles.
A real plated dirty will change your life.
If the nesr race thing doesn't happen, we can certainly do a cranberry country plated ride.

What would be a good course to start on (easy) , if someone wanted to do their first race and haven't really ridden in just about a year?

Any of them except Freetown. Who knows what portion of the mx track they'll use in wareham, but I expect it'll be tame. The rest should be sandy, flowing woods. We'll see at the winter jdays there.
Swansea is another kickass venue with about 75% grass track per lap. Freetown is...you know...fun, rideable, but pretty boney.

Re: 2014 PSTR short course schedule

Even the Freetown short courses have been relatively mild. If you want to get into pstr racing I would say pick the event you can make it to and have fun. There is a good chance I'll be there making an ass of myself among others.

Upper oxford has more bigger formations, Freetown has some bigger stuff, but mostly a ton of baby heads poking up.

Re: 2014 PSTR short course schedule

One thing to keep in mind about freetown, is that we're all dealing with the same shit. If you struggle in a section, there are plenty of others struggling right alongside you. I brought my friend Jimmy who rides about twice a year. He fell down a few times, and certainly didn't win. But he finished both morning and afternoon "motos", and was smiling ear to ear for the rest of the afternoon.

I'd say Swansea would be the most fun and least intimidating for one's first race. There are very few surprises, since it's mostly wide-open grass track
