3/13 Stimilon Winter Warmup Anyone?

Just got the email from DaveO. I'm seriously considering it. More or less got my ass handed to me @ Southwick, the only time I've ever been on a MX track. Who's got what to say about Mototown?

Many have asked if we would do an event up at Mototown this winter, before the racing season starts. So we have set up a warmup event, similar to the one we do in the summer, for you all to come up and enjoy. The event is set for Saturday March 13th.

We will offer 18 classes, similar to the summer event with some modest changes (no enduro, never ever or 85 classes - but we added a pitbike open). Each class will be limited to 25 entries - so they will fill up fast. Pre Registration is HIGHLY recommended!

We will offer our 250 and 450 Main Events at the end of the day for the fastest qualifying racers and we will also offer a $2000 Purse for the Main Events. Attached please find out the details on who who qualifies and what the payout is. I have also included a copy of the registration form and waiver in case you want to sign up now. There are 2 - use the PDF if you can, that way you type your info. But the word document is included for those who are computer challenged (so you can print and fill it out - NEATLY please!)

We will of course have an after party at the Hilton Garden Inn hotel (across the street from the Marriott) featuring the awards ceremony and live Karaoke with your hosts Carter Olcott and Matty O'rouke - so dont miss it. The Stimilon room rate for this event is only $75 - so plan on staying over and taking the elevator home. For reservations call them directly at 860-688-6400 and ask for the Stimilon room rate of $75. There will also be a special short video premiere that night as well.

mototown will be much tougher for a newbie to race on. Compared to Southwick it's more like a SX track. Big jumps, actual doubles etc. That said, I'm considering it.

I'd be in if my foot is healed enough but I'm not sure at this point. Starting phys. therapy this week.

no, most of the jumps are rolled easily but it might be iffy on whether or not you think the track is 'fun' riding...can't say for sure

I didn't mean to imply that a newb shouldn't do it. Just that it's a lot more "jumpy" than southwick. What this means is that there are jumps you have to either slow way down to roll, or you have to hit them with enough speed and confidence to clear the next one. In other words, on a few spots, you can't just jump it a little further each time.

Southwick doesn't have anything like that. You can gradually add speed to all the jumps there. It's just 2 really different styles of riding.

definitely not! The novice classes are plenty fast for newbies. I'm thinkin crusty 35 and 2 stroke open. Unless I can run the 125 in novice 250.

ya I bet 125s will be fine for 250 class, actually probably 125 and 250 2smokes

I have been to MotoTown a few times (not since the re-open) and I consider myself an advanced Newbie (I dont dig flying to much) But still a NEWBIE on MX much better in the woods I would 100% not race at mototown. If you crash at Southwick or Crowhill its like making a dive play at beach vollyball no biggie as long as you stay away from the Ditches.

I am gonna hold off until Crow hill opens

You could be biased due to landing flat on your back there , but I hear ya. That's why I offered the warning. I think it's more dangerous than the other local tracks.

even taking away the jumps (which is a big part), the width of the track plays into it heavily as well. Specially when peoples speeds are very different ie: someone approaching a jump in 3rd gear close to pinned vs someone hitting brakes and rolling it and maybe rolling to the left/right due to a rut etc...

Ya, Last time we were there you broke your ankle and I hit a downed rider... Doh! I was stunned that I couldn't get clear of that crash, but there was just bike and rider everywhere I looked.

It's not crazy dangerous, but the stakes are a little higher for sure.

Did you end up going ?

The day before the race my rear brakes went and the bike decided to go thru a PMS episode and decided not to start anymore.
