Well, I got sick of not twisting a throttle, so I got myself a new 2011 KTM 350 SX. Went riding yesterday for the first time in 2 years, and discovered a few things:
First, the bike is great. Plenty of power, but not trying to run out from under you like the 450s tend to do. I could get after the throttle pretty hard and accelerate quickly but not worry about the overwhelming power. And it handles pretty damn well too.
Second, being in shape makes a big difference. I quit smoking not long before I stopped riding last time and I was way overweight. Since then I've dropped 40+ pounds and done a lot of cardio and some p90x and other strength training. I'm in probably the best shape of my life, and I was able to ride longer motos (my second moto was 20-22 minutes) without much fatigue. I've never felt that good on a motocross bike in my life.
I'm really hoping this year is a good one for a lot of riding. We're definitely going to have to get some NESR Rise of the Dirty Bastards action going this summer!
