Mom doesn't always know best Only the best we can. What you said makes total sense, maybe I will see if I can find a used balance bike since I have already spent a small fortune on bikes this year.

Re: Is (just turned) 4 too young?

A great way to do this is to use a goal like they must be able to make a slalom course on the balance bike before they can ride the minibike. They will learn to countersteer in less than a day!!! and never need training wheels. motos are actually EASIER than bicycles, because, like the strider, no pedals! Kids aren't usually developmentally ready for pedals AND steering until a bit older.

Like I said, Stryder at 3. Now 6, he has his own little collection of bicycles and continues to 'wow' us on his mountain bike (which is WAY to big for him). I couldn't get my oldest daughter to pick it up 'til she was almost 10, Tovah was between 8-9 years. Canaan was peddling his own BMX bike sans learning assistance when he was 4. I BELIEVE!

    question...

Is there a way to govern the speed on these things? Is there a kill switch for us worrysome parents. His favorite word is "crash". He's six but still has a hard time balancing on his bicycle.

You can install a throttle limiter. Restricts the twisty thing that goes vroom.

PW50 and CRF50 (?) stock throttles have them.

There is a throttle limiter that comes stock on most 50's.

And if you are worried and outwardly nervous they will be too

Fuckity FUCK! We held on to ours for a coupla years and FINALLY gave it away last fall. There are off-brands now though too that may be inexpensive alternatives to the Strider brand...

Three days on a balance bike and he went from not getting it at all to balancing, turning, and leaning like a pro! One more week and I am confiscating all training wheels!
