+1. If youre trying to do it the cheap route thats one thing but a set of new plastics wont run you too much unless you get the tank too. Ill have to look at the catalog when I go back to the shop tomorrow to see if they run that far back.

check ebay for new or better plastics (unless of course james/peter can hook you up, gotta support the local business) a lot of people do actually have decent old plastics laying around they want to unload.

I was just gonna use the cheapo plastic spray paint that they have for repainting lawn chairs and what not. That won't work? It's held up well on the chairs I've done.....

Plastics aren't bad - they're just white and dirt + white = off yellowish / brownish / every scratch looks dirty

I'll try to throw some pics up of it apart today or tomorrow.

don't lose sleep over that and don't waste your time painting them. tht paint may work on chairs etc, but the bike is going to take a lot more abuse than a chair would. crash, the plastics bend, the paint is going to crack and look worse

Good call - I hadn't really thought of the effects of crashing / bending stuff.

Ok I checked out the catalog today. It seems they dont make a complete set for the 89 YZ125 but you can buy each piece separately. Its not cheap. If I remember correctly the comlete set is 125-150 but for the 89 since you cant buy as a set it prices out to a little over 200 unless they have changed their prices.

Ok - so clutch basket is worn and plates are good. Filed down basket so should be good for a while.

Problem! - Oil is leaking from the transmission... Where are all the possible spots?
Gasket I sealed is not leaking (did order real gaskets for the whole bike to do away with redi-gasket though), looks like 2nd gasket in from the right may be leaking - haven't touched that one yet.
Also looks like shift rod on L side is leaking oil? Is there a gasket or oil seal in there?

I've already realized I'm gonna have to tear it down and put in all new gaskets but I'm wondering if I need more than just gaskets for the side with the shifter?

I just want to go play on the new toy!

Oh, painted the plastics too... all that's left is the gas tank. Pics are on my facebook.

Thanks Jay, I cleaned it up and as far as I can see its only the shift lever and the 2nd gasket in on the right... hoping when I pop her open I don't find anything else wrong.

I just bought a Yamaha WR 400F after many years of being away from off-road. Quick question Clough state park in NH all you need is to be registered right? Any rules, What to watch out for etc?? I know the windham depot is kind of lame and there are a ton of cops..

OHRV registration, not a street plate. the main intersection they will sometimes pull radar on, not sue what the limit is there but i have gone by em cruising in 3rd on a 250 and not had an issue, other than that you are good to go. watch out most of the trails (and all of the good ones) are one way so people fly, if you are going the wrong direction you will get hurt. watch for signs. maybe ill see ya there.

P.S. if you see trails labeled "difficult" they are not kidding, if you have limited experience with hard woods riding id recommend staying clear.

I'm warning you I may just take you up on that! I have to do the heli-coil thingy to the drain bolt too and I'm not sure me and making metal filings near important parts is a good idea without some close supervison.

I now remember BS telling me that when I bought it. I think he went up to the next size. I'm glad I pretty much gave it to you or I'd be feeling pretty bad right about now.

I have 2 77 KZ1000's if you want to buy those next.

Yeah, when you only have one shot to do it right, you gotta do it right the first time, not the 4th....

LOL. I'm actually enjoying the challenge. It all seems to be stuff that's easily fixed when someone mechanically inclined is working on it. Now, I'm not mechanically inclined so it may go extremely badly but none of it appears insurmountable.

No thanks to the bikes you have in about 50billion pieces. Thanks though.

Yeah yeah... pick on the chick trying to fix a bike herself. I told you - I've got righty tighty lefty loosey down pat now.
How much harder than that can it be?

Just got a call, guess I'm not moving out. Guy had to back out of the lease, so i guess I don't need to pack and I can turn wrenches, go riding, and have fun instead this weekend, but I'm going to stay broke.
