So my 8yo daughter wants to try riding somehting faster than her mx350 razor. She rides in our front yard grass patch and in the cul de sac.
she has taken it to the large field behind trees doing figure 8s etc in Burllington
But where can i take her when I get her the pw80 or such i told her i'd get?
she isnt ready for woops, roots, rocks etc lik ein wrentham forest
I'm in wilmington, ma dont mid driving an hour somewhere she can putter along get her feet wet slowly etc dirt roads etc some obstacles she can choose to attack if she wants. She's not an adrenalin kid so i want to birng her along slowly if that makes sense. She hasnt spilled yet and I dont want to over whelm her as she can be an overthinker like me.
Any thoughts?
also PW 80 for an 8yo auto clutch or similar I'm looking for.![]()
hmmmm......
If you ever want to make a weekend trip up to Maine, my son is 8 on a TC50 and my daughter is 10 on a CRF110, we have a mix of dirt, woods, a mini track, and a big boy track as well as a big lawn! We are about 3 hours north of Boston though. We are always up for some riding.
The Rockingham rail trail is a very easy ride as far as terrain goes it goes from Windham NH to Freemont NH with some road crossings involved. Double check the age restrictions on NH off road riding just in case.
Seacoast Trail Riders, a NH off road club, often have kids days as well. https://dmcdj5.wixsite.com/sctr1 https://www.facebook.com/groups/1404350369801944/
A friend of mine has two young boys and those are the rides he started taking them on and he has made other friends that have private riding areas that he now gets invites to as well.
it's so tough in MA, i'm with you on where TF do we go if you're not racers. my 10 y/o is now eligible for MA forests but we need to do the full test/classroom shit. my 8 y/o will prob be left behind.
NH is awesome as far as rules go but further for you. we had a blast way up at Jericho Mtn but we're going to try Pisgah SF this season which is just over the border for us and i heard is 'boring' which might be perfect for kids. not sure yet.
maybe we all do a kiddo/parent wknd up at xrocket's joint !
we were just down in NC to visit relatives, brought the bikes and were able to ride right out of their back yard, old skool style, zero care from anyone. how amazing.

I’d be up for hosting a ride day at our place. We have about 8 miles of trails, probably 1.5 miles of those are wide enough for a car. Main loop (the 1.5 mile part) is great for kids, then there’s a couple small semi easy trails if they want something more challenging. The pond loop is definitely big bike only.

Any peewee/kids loop at an MX track out there?
Events/races, classes (I think garamdman did one with his kid IIRC)
Doesn’t Hodges have some easier riding closer to the parking lot?
I used to go a mini track in Westborough behind a shopping center, but I don’t know if it’s there anymore. Maybe someone can verify if I have some general whereabouts

I know Hemonds in Minot Maine has 3 tracks, national level, adult, and pee wee tracks.
I was not a fan of Hodges for kids, it is 90% roots and little 12" tires and crappy suspension don't take it well.

Sounds good to me!!!!
Doable distance.... the thing wiht my kid she likes activities with me.... taggin along following etc. The track migh tbe a thing after she gets comfortable and wants to challenge herself/ makes friends. Like me she does activities for social not for internal "drive" if that makes sense
hmmmm......
There are some kinder spots at Hodges that you didn't get to see, but they're def not worth driving all the way back for. Still sorry to hear about your day there, that sucks... glad you salvaged it with some riding back home, though.
That's a lot closer to us than I thought. Hmm... I might go check it out some day just to mix things up a bit.

Lots of options.... solo with kid and with others offering generosity of their properties.
I'm going to look at clubs. Seacost is close to me I"ll reach out and see which is more amenable to kids
Next stop is a bike for her. There is a ttr90 1 town over selling for 1200. Think he'll take 1000
Then eqpt, helmet, gaurds etc.....
Should be a fun ride hopefully
hmmmm......
on 508 ... we've rented it a few times now for family ride days. so awesome to own the whole joint, the kids LOVE it, zero worry of mixing it up with a motoBro out tryin' to rip laps. we scoped the kids loop out back the first time we rented, took one lap then put all the kids on the big track. way more fun.
we usually chip in with 3 or 4 other families but the next time we rent, would be fab to have you guys with kids join us. if that sounds interesting, shoot me a PM so i have your info.

yeah, still bummed that was your intro to HVD after driving so far. the opposite side where you normally have to enter the trails is waaaaay different than the loop they shot the kids into by the dike. plus we already talked about the 'oval' they used to use for the pee-wees. ah well.
my crew has been down a few times already, can't wait to get a sesh in. had a Tubliss failure down in NC, gotta get unbusy and fix it asap. parts are in.

get up to date info on any trail system before you travel and find out they are closed due to washouts and flooding from this past weeks rain
I'm seeing a lot of trails that won't be open till May 30 minimum. Hell, locally a lot of town roads are closed.

Yeah I got two days in there myself along with a day at Pachaug & the NETRA event that was this past Sunday. Good riding so far this year even if it's been a little damp.
I'd be down for a day at 508. I bet my nephew would be, too if he doesn't have one of a million other things going on that day. Heck, maybe even Sylwia if the timing's right.
I'll shoot you a PM

good deal, thanks for the PM. will keep all of you guys posted.
i should never have sold the PW80 we rehab'd, it was the perfect yard bike to keep around. blah. i'll keep an eye peeled for you because i'm always searching. i've seen a handful of good ones but haven't looked specifically lately.
right now i'm wanting to move on from the GG MC50 and maybe go E-5 for the 8 y/o. the centrifugal clutches are just such little bitches on the 50 motors. it's been an annoying step-back for my guy (although he loves it).

After the Southwick shit show my sons clutch was NOT happy. Spend $140 on new clutch plates and the ones I took out didnt look that bad, I think it just needed to be adjusted. The new ones grabbed WAY too low. I can't believe how much it affected performance. I went from 9 clicks to 11, then 12 and it made a huge difference. Lofts the front wheel when the pipe hits. That little bike is crazy, I couldn't imagine riding that when I was 8.
yeah, shitty system in my book ... we went with an IRP Triple Grip, more (special) oil capacity, better design, Engine Ice, and a 65 impeller (bigger fins) ... still overheated and puked most of it's coolant. they're mini racebikes made for like 1 moto. fuck that shit ... but yes, ROCKETSHIP. hahaa.
i was lucky and got ours for $400 then threw a few hundred into it on basic stuff ... but yeah, COVID blew the roof off then things came back down a bit ... the ones i've been interested in are usually around $1,200 - 1,500.
