I've gotten way too many PM's about the ice track to answer 'em individually...
I'm not snubbing anyone or rubbing people's noses in it, nor is there a 'list of approved riders' (that was the best one, Jim!). And in all honesty, I don't know if it'll ever be 'opened to the masses'...
Some factors here: Our lake is a private lake and where we live is a 'private community'. As such there are no public parking areas in the winter. In fact, there's really no 'public' parking at any time of the year in our colony. We even have a town-enforced parking ban in effect 'til April 30th. That is NO on-street parking, period - at any time, day or night, weekday or weekend. We can get a FEW vehicles in our yard and our neighbor is nice enough to let us use his driveway when he's not around. But we're still extremely limited in the parking department, more so with all this fuckin' snow we've been getting this week...
Basically the only access to it is from my backyard unless you live on the lake or know someone who does. All the trails leading too & from the lake are closed to wheeled vehicles. Even if we had the space to put you all, that gets to be quite the burden on my family, having a yard full of people every weekend, tearing up & down our backyard & cove...
For years now, people here have been asking me to plow a track out on our lake. My answer's always been the same: come up & help me lay one out and clean it up and you'll have access to it. This year, a coupla people finally did just that and we had it...
Now I'm honestly NOT trying to come off all prickoffish, I'm really not. But given the limitations we're facing with parking & such, people that help 'make' & maintain this thing are obviously gonna get priority when it comes to 'inviting' people up - as is family & close friends. I sincerely wish I could just open it all up and tell ya'll to come up, but I just can't - I don't have the room...
I'll gladly accept offers of help to fix this one up & maintain it. And those that can will certainly have access to it. Only thing is, I don't work Fridays and I prefer to get that shit done then so I can keep the weekend open for play. Not saying I won't need help Saturday, just I'd prefer to get it done Friday. If we need help Saturday and you can make it, I'll surely take you up on that...
I hope that clears summa this up. I really don't want people to think it's 'all like that' or anything. We can only do what we can and we can only have enough people up as our yard'll allow. Yeah, certain people are gonna have 'first dibs' - again, those that help and family & close friends. I wish there was more I could do...
