wish he linked the build thread, i bet the suspension got a little work. if not, no biggie, that's the personal-pref-icing. he's done everything else.

    man, i bet it's a blast to ride. the '02 KX125 was 196lbs

I'm a little lost - isn't the stock KDX220 frame/suspension/gearing/geometry better setup for woods than an MX setup?

but cool setup regardless...I want an XR200 motor in a CR chasis

well, this is how I understand it (I might be wrong??) - the stock XR200R suspension is like a mountain bike...it has something like 4" of travel in the rear and it's non-adjustable, so anything with more travel is better - so even if you're running an MX valved/geometry setup over the stock setup, it's still an upgrade

there's a cool project on TT called 'Project Daddy-O', check it out. CRF100 roller, XR100 motor, KX80/KTM65 suspension. guy did some amazing work but still a small bike.

on the KX125 in the woods question, light, light light! can you say flickable? with these hybrids, the only 'MX'ish' thing left is some suspension tuning.

the KDX is a very good bike, just a lot softer and heavier. the KX chassis and bits amp the fun factor of that motor.

i've always ridden MX bikes in the woods anyway so i prefer the feel. had an XR250R for a while, felt like a pig, never wanted one again. my CR80, 125 and 250 with the usual mods were way more fun.

I wish I had room for that bike.
Bahvesh, It makes perfect sense once you have ridden both bikes. The KDX had a heavier frame that you kinda sit down into with forks that were recycled from the 1986 parts bin. It also had a motor that was perfectly balanced for a strong and smooth mid-range that pulled right off idle, just like a any 2005 model 4stroke would, yet the KDX motor can go for 20 years with light maintenance.

The KX was a modern handling and light weight chassis with cartridge forks and a mild 125 motor that lacked torque.

I just realized Husky's evil plan for world domination.
They can build a 200cc 2 stroke motor and chassis with DNM forks in the Bajaj and LML factories and Chinese aluminum wheels and sell it for $3500 out the door.

What are the difference between a woods bike and an MX bike? They all are dirt bikes to me so I'd like to know

Woods bike has a softer suspension and is usually heavier unless you go husky or ktm. The motor is also usually detuned compared to the mx variant. It makes power at a lower rpm and usually sacrifices it at higher rpms. Bottom end is more critical for woods riding.

Re: Bet this is a fun woods toy - KX 220 Hybrid (for sale)

yup, kinda boils down to suspension and power delivery...

woods - soft(er) suspension w/smooth power delivery for traction in the nasty, heavy flywheel = slow rev, 6-speed, plenty of guards, geared for torque

MX - stiff(er) suspension w/stronger power delivery for starts/jumps/exits, lighter flywheel = quick rev, 5-speed, no guards, geared for speed

dual sport and trail bikes can be heavier and less focused than the above.
