Probably not difficult at all, considering the rr that Clinton has is totally platable. Afaik.

Being able to fill up the tank and not have to carry premix would be nice.
Might be worth checking out those AJP bikes that Clayton mentioned. Depending on whether you can get a plate for it or not.

    4 stroke 250cc, efi, 2 gal tank.

yeah, shouldn't be bad at all. my bike came with headlight/tail light, speedo/computer, horn installed and everything else ready to plug in. full controls on bars. slap on some DOT tyres, signals and you're pretty much there. steering lock with two keys as well.

i removed all that stuff for now.

In NH, it's trivial to get pretty much anything plated.

    1. Make sure your bike meets the requirements of R.S.A. 215-A:35-39 (if required: horn, lights, spark arrestor, etc.).

    2. Fill out this form which you may have to have signed by a mechanic who did the work or can verify the bike is compliant: http://mvtr.org/misc/mclegal.pdf

    3. Take it to the town clerk and get a license plate!

Here is the section that concerns bikes not originally intended for street use.

OHRVs or Trail Bikes Registered for Highway Use
    Section 215-A:35
215-A:35 OHRV Safety Equipment Required. – Any OHRV or trail bike, as defined by RSA 215-A:1, V and XIV, respectively, which is also registered for use on the highways of the state shall comply with all OHRV requirements concerning safety equipment, sound emission levels, spark arrestors as well as all other requirements pertaining to the registration of motor vehicles.
    Source. 1981, 538:3. 1983, 449:17, eff. July 1, 1983.

    Section 215-A:36
215-A:36 Directional Flashers. – For OHRVs or trail bikes registered for use on the highway, directional flashers shall not be required unless said vehicle had this equipment installed as original equipment by the manufacturer.
    Source. 1981, 538:3. 1983, 449:17, eff. July 1, 1983.

    Section 215-A:37
215-A:37 Knobby Pattern Tires. – OHRVs or trail bikes with knobby pattern tires, which have been registered for highway use, shall be permitted on all highways within the state except interstate highways.
    Source. 1981, 538:3. 1983, 449:17, eff. July 1, 1983.

    Section 215-A:38
215-A:38 Headlights. – For any trail bike registered for use on the highways, a high and low beam headlight shall not be required unless said vehicle had this equipment installed as original equipment by the manufacturer. This section shall not affect the requirements of RSA 215-A:14, I(a).
    Source. 1986, 152:24, eff. Oct. 1, 1986.

    Section 215-A:39
215-A:39 Speedometer and Odometer. – For any trail bike registered for use on highways, a speedometer and odometer shall not be required unless said vehicle had this equipment installed as original equipment by the manufacturer.

Re: Beta Xtrainer - Entry level 300cc 2T Enduro

US Beta Importer Tim Pilg - Dropping In On - Dirt Rider Magazine

We did this for a couple of reasons. Let’s say a guy is out there who is in the market for a bike and maybe he’s not a racer but he’s a hardcore weekend rider, he just doesn’t compete. So he’s checking out bikes and the big bikes are just too intimidating. So ultimately we wanted a design a bike that was less intimidating but one that still had the performance.
Outside of the "hardcore" bit, I kinda feel like I'm the kind of rider they are talking about.
Maybe I can aspire to grow into the "hardcore" part.

Of course the biggest problem with this new bike is a used KTM 250 or 300 XC/XC-W. Few lbs heavier, no oil injection, but probably on the order of half the price with goodies.

    Likely with better suspenders too.

Who's suspenders are likely better? Remember, I don't know a damned thing about these brands.

At under 7k, with all the r&d that had to go into a project like this, they had to skimp somewhere.
That said, every stock platform is going to need help as your ability progresses.

Re: Beta Xtrainer - Entry level 300cc 2T Enduro

the neat thing about this bike is you can most likely convert it into a full-powered 300 down the road, if desired. the price is nice as an entry-level bike too, the 250s start at $8,200 - $8,500 new.

if you're interested in Beta, don't overlook a used 250. Beta considers it a trail bike and the 300 a "race" bike. very smooth (and adjustable, like KTM) powerband.

keep an eye out for demo bikes, good deals to be had. check with AfterHoursCycles and 3SeasRecreation. they both had demos not too long ago.

I mean, I'd be interested in the trainer. Little, compact and torquey sounds lovely.
But, as Bubs indicated, you could grab a used and well setup KTM (husky or GG or maybe a beta too) for half the price.
And then still be looking at setting up the trainer on top of it.

    I'd like to state publicly I'm keeping the 300 until I reach A. Then I'll re-assess.

forgot to add... a dealer demo bike from a shop like After Hours Cycle will most likely come with the suspension set up for you. i know he will pretty much set up anything you want before you take delivery, and not with a big price hike either. the dude swapped rear springs for me, didn't charge for it, and i didn't even buy the previous spring from him (!) great service right there.

I swear I smelled baby powder out there. The sent was brief and fleeting. Lasted only a bit longer than my view of most riders as they hustled past me.
I assumed it was some of that scented 2-smoke oil everyone is on (or off) about.

Re: Beta Xtrainer - Entry level 300cc 2T Enduro

The key elements for me are the low seat height and "chuggable" motor. These are two things that work best for newbies and are why I'd like it for my wife.

However, all reports say it is just fine for advanced riders up to a solid medium pace... so it would be fun for me to play on... in technical stuff especially.

Just wish it was street legal

So many great new bikes are coming out that actually seem to fit how I ride. ( ie: KDX ) Now if they were only plateable hmmmmm

Re: Beta Xtrainer - Entry level 300cc 2T Enduro

A lot of people ask me why in hell's name I commute from NH to MA every day. Bill's post on plating req's here is yet another example. I feel for you poo' bastids.

I read the link Chip offered on the KTM Freeride at lunch. The seat height on these makes a lot of sense to me too. I am not a small guy, but I have a fairly short 30" inseam. I'm sure I'm wrong, but some of my more humiliating tip-overs feel like they are because I just can't hold the machine up on loose terrain. My KLX's 320 lbs doesn't help that.
