    Boot advice

I am looking to get some new boots in the next couple weeks.
Right now I have a cheapo pair of answer boots ($99).
Since my broken ankle/surgery I really want a better pair for protection.
    Looking to spend around $300.

    Suggestions?

    Re: Boot advice

+1 for Sidi Crossfire SRS but they're $500+ never had a pair but all i read is rave reviews. Paul D has a pair.

if you're looking for brand new, i would try to bump your budget to at least $400 or so.

(i'm a fan of used boots off eBay then recondition them w/soles, buckles, etc)

    Re: Boot advice

I have had good experience with the Gaerne Boots. My SG10 were very comfortable from day 1 and have taken a few hard hits without any injury to my feet/ankles/lower leg. I would agree with Clinton in the idea of bumping the budget up a little as most of the top line boots are in between 4 and 5 hundred unless you have a connection someplace.

    Re: Boot advice

I have some 10-12 year old Sidis and would pay big bucks again. Back then I paid over 300 for them. In my eyes they offer superior protection. I'm pretty sure I would not have broken my ankle years back if I had these one instead of the Tech 3s. Aside from the ankle protection they support your arches better too.

    Re: Boot advice

The really expensive ones (Astars, SIDI) are pretty much the best but I would also recommend the 661 flights. I have had 2 pairs and they are damn good for what they cost (more mid range). My first pair lasted almost 2 years before the ankles were just super loose.

    Re: Boot advice

    good advice so far. Thanks.
I do love the crossfires and have yet to hear anything bad about them.
$475 is tough for me to shell out right now though. But I guess $475 now vs $1000 in co-pays and deductibles and weeks out of work is a better choice.

The 661 Flights look good as well.

    Re: Boot advice

i havent read in-depth reviews yet, but check out the new Scott 450 boot too. thought i read a few good things in a dirt rag. price should be a little closer to your budget. same goes for the Alpinestars Tech7.

    Re: Boot advice

i just picked up a pair of 661 flights. so far i like them.

they run small though. my tech 8s they replaced are 12s so i ordered the 661 in 12 from motorcycle superstore. they were tight so i sent them back for the 13s.

    Re: Boot advice

When I rode dirt I used to have a pair of Gaerne and they worked well for the price... I sold them w/my bike and they were in great shape after many mudholes and water crossings. If I was going to try and save money it would be those... if not... Sidi.

    Re: Boot advice

I've always liked the A* boots and have had great luck with them. A bit expensive, but the Tech8 is one of the best deals IMO. For mostly trail riding, the removable bootie will certainly pay off after getting soaked a few times in the water. Simply take them out, toss them in the wash and next time you'll have nice dry feet.
What size are you? I have a pair of Tech 10 that I really don't like. Great boot, they just don't fit me to well. I've had them about a year and a half, but only used them a handful of times, mostly when I was on my roadtrip over in Europe...so they have never been swamped and don't stink

    Re: Boot advice

I like my Astar tech 7s. I get good feel through the sole and they have good protection. The only down side is the soles wear pretty quick. THe brake side takes a beating from the pedal.
