Boots: Sidi Crossfire 3 SRS, worth it?

I have some O'Neil cheapo boots that I got 10+ years ago for birt diking.

Now when I ride my birt dike, I can't feel shit as far as shifting and brake.

    They aren't comfortable for me.

They don't offer much protection for being so damn vague.

For street boots, I run Sidi Mag-1's. LOVE them.

Should I drop the coyne for some Crossfire 3's with the SRS?

Can get them for about $430 shipped......

For whatever reason I don't know many people that run sidi boots off-road. Most people run Alpine stars, Gaerne, or Fox.

Pretty sure my next pair are going to be Gaerne SG-12.

They are absolutely bomber fro protection. For me they are also ultra comfy and required no break in. They theoretically can last a lifetime as all parts are replace able. I think they are worth the investment. THey are HEAVY though.

Re: Boots: Sidi Crossfire 3 SRS, worth it?

I rode the 1's HARD for 4 years. the ankle hinge finally let go, and was essentially an external component at that point, not really part of the boot's "system".
I just bought a set of 2's on closeout from RMATV, and would do it again in a second.
    they are absolutely phenomenal boots.

My hinges wore out and I rebuilt them. Boots will not die

The bit where the post is held captive came unstitched and flappy.
It's because my feet are silly narrow. I've not seen anybody else's do that.

Re: Boots: Sidi Crossfire 3 SRS, worth it?

I have a pair of Crossfire 1's. I like them, and when I replace them, it'll probably be with a newer Crossfire. But due to the hard toe box, and stiff sole I can't feel shit. No dexterity and fine grain control like on a street bike with street Sidis. Far as I can tell, it's just a fact of life for that kind of foot protection. And it also took me a little bit to realize that trying to threshold brake with the rear in dirt is a waste of time. Stomp it like an on-off switch

The main problem I see with the 1's is the exposed circlip ankle hinge. The 2's and 3's have that fixed with the cover plate.

Re: Boots: Sidi Crossfire 3 SRS, worth it?

I just ordered a set of the Crossfire SRS3, they should be here by the weekend. I was going for the Crossfire SRS2 on close out, but they were no longer available in the color I wanted...white and red.

I've never tried a pair of SiDi off-road boots, but have ridden with a few people that have. Comments like Comfort, a nice buckle system, and drier feet in wet conditions is what sold me on them. Love the high end A-stars tech8/10, but I'm tired of the buckles, and getting wet feet riding in grass with dew on it.

Re: Boots: Sidi Crossfire 3 SRS, worth it?

The crossfires have better ankle mobility than most other boots, with the exception of the most high end stuff from any mfg.
You might try and adjust levers to get some better feel.
Threshold braking is pretty important, mostly on techy descents (off the top of my head) and requires you to grip with your knees to free up your ankle to move.
Strictly treating your rear brake as a light switch is a disservice to your skill set.

Re: Boots: Sidi Crossfire 3 SRS, worth it?

If you have wider feet the things I have heard indicate that the Sidis run narrower than others. Personally use the Gaerne SG-10 and I am plenty happy with them.

Like most things once you hit a certain price point it really comes down to personal preference. If you are willing to spend over $400 on a pair of MX boots (which I would agree is not crazy as at our ages our feet are not growing anymore so why not get the best you can protection wise) all of the offerings in the price point will have similar levels of protection with similar doo dads. Some latches will feel better, some boots will feel right on your feet from the get go, some will come in the color scheme that you want. Decide what you want to spend, try all of the offerings at that price point and pick your poison.

Re: Boots: Sidi Crossfire 3 SRS, worth it?

    I have a pair of srs2's.

I bought them because I have a deal with sidi and they offered the sumo sole. Very comfortable and plush, no time needed for break in. Feeling is diminished due to the plushness though. Not sure it's the boot I'd rock if I was using them as a dirt boot.

I have tested them at Boxshop. Tucked the front end off a jump and high sided. My ankle got crushed between the ground and the peg. It instantly swelled to twice the size, but pretty sure it didn't break.

Buy extra base plate screws if you are going to be switching back and forth between plates. Wicked bitch to poke the holes through, so it's easier to leave the screws in the base plate.

I don't plan on changing soles, just need the soles with the extra grip for off-road use.

when you get them (if), make a point to take the soles off, and the cam locks out and grease everything with silicone grease. it'll make replacing soles way easier down the line.

I'll modulate in rare situations. Like on slower technical decent. Especially off-camber. But most of the time, doesn't really seem to make sense. Charging downhill in to a turn on faster pace stuff, lock the rear just before the turn and modulate the front.

Brap-Deals.com | Finding the best moto deals!

They say about $25, but I went to the site where they reported the deal and shipping ended up being about $22 to the US. Can't shake a stick at that deal!

My Crossfire SRS3 showed up yesterday, very dreamy looking and feeling, the simple buckles are a welcomed change. Once this glacier melts, I can get out and test them

Technically those are a second generation of the Crossfire 1. They revised the pivot mechanism so it's sealed, but the 2 has some subtle differences in the outer plastics.
