    Breaking in a newbie

had a few people over last weekend. R7's brother in law had planned to just putt - putt around the field on his sons bike while we went out riding , but we dragged him into the woods with us , and for not doing much dirtbike riding before , he held his own . until the hill that has seemed to get almost everyone a time or two , but he gave it a go .

    Re: Breaking in a newbie

Nice, I'm going through similar with my wife. So far she's played on MX207's and MX101's kids' tracks, and even ponied up for a run on MX101's full size track after a bit. We both chickened out after looking at the endurocross track at 101 though... heh. She's also put a good 70 miles of mostly converted railroad bed riding in with my family up north and is now hooked. Hoping to slowly introduce her to woods riding next.

Good times Sean, thanks for having us over Fun weekend, trails are awesome and both fields offered great traction the second half of the day. I think the quad may have the advantage in both of them Great layout!
Only thing that could have made the weekend better was some cooler weather..wow was it hot!
And I think my brother in law has the bug now, I'm sure he'll be looking for a bike and some gear soon

Cool video. The double peace sign after the hill climb fail made me laugh.

lol @ 2:37 & 3:51...but you can tell that bug just bit him bad because he's having a blast

I've seen the figure 8 drill in a lot of dirt-training videos...it's an excellent way to practice!

and the more you ride, the more the berms build up, and the more you can ride like this on it:
    (that's not me!)

    and that quad is mean!!

I was actually thinking of getting a roto tiller out there to loosen up the dirt in the corners so it will berm up faster , being that the dirt is pretty well hard packed and i don't own a back hoe or bull dozer .

I can remember following you guys on the Puppy Dog Route - for about five miles.

When the dust cloud kept getting farther and farther away, I decided that "Discretion was the better part of valor."

so I went out last week and tilled up one of the corners and used an iron rake to form a berm .
I took my watch and wedding ring off and set them on the front of the 4wheeler while I ran the rototiller , and forgot to grab them before I took off again , I did 3 or so laps around the corner to pack the dirt down before i realized I forgot to grab them .
I found the watch right away , but no such luck with the wedding ring , long story short over the course of several days I've spent more than 12+ hours in the hot sun and pouring rain , with a metal detector and an umbrella , then a weed whacker and again with the metal detector . I gridded of the atea with flags and swept the entire thing , maybe 100ft by 100ft at least 3 times. Just as I was about to give up on it today , just for shits i decided to sweep the outside of the area with the metal detector , and I found it not 2 feet from where I started .

Now I just need to till up the other half and I can start berming it in . only this time the ring stays in the house .

Oh, you were perfectly gracious, but pushing it on a loaded bike far from home didn't seem like a good idea. Riding around on my son's XR100R seems more prudent.....
