I don't love the MT16 front, feels like it gets overwhelmed by the grip of the rear

For my recent 650+ mile dual sport ride throughout Baja, I spooned on a Kenda Washougal II Front (DOT rated) and Kenda Trackmaster II rear (also DOT) per recommendations. Baja is unique in that you hit every type of terrain: mud, deep sand, rock, etc. If you hit a variety of surfaces and want to maintain DOT compliance, I highly recommend the setup.

    Re: Bumpy tires again

Just picked up yet another MT16 this weekend and will be taking the 2 year old Ibex off for good. Honestly the Ibex lasted a long time. Two week long trips to WV. Some new england work. Not bad life for my money. I'd run one again for the right ride. For me the MT16 just does more for me in more places. I'm trying to break in some new trails at the new property and I need a bit stiffer knobs to help cut into the side hills.

BTW. I'm in heaven having great riding right out side the door.

regarding DOT, in addition to the Kenda recommendations, check out the offerings from Motoz as well.

    Re: Bumpy tires again

Anyone know if the mt 16 front is DOT?
I see some people say yes.. some say no

Either way. I think... I'll just spoon some super cheap DOT used tires for the inspection and then swap on the the MT16 and M59 on the rear. Bike will be 99.5% on dirt

The HF tire changer should come in handy now

Maybe it's just the way I read your comment, but it's usually the other way around here in the NE....

Read your comment and I was " Did I order the wrong sizes at 1am last night?
    nope
    MT16 rear
    M59 front

So my question on the 16 being DOT is moot

    Re: Bumpy tires again

This is the year we finally plan to ride off-road on a more regular basis, finally. Our property is about 50% complete of a selective cut logging operation, so the plan is to start clearing the trails again over the next month. Terrain is typical New England roots, rocks, and sandy/silty loam type trails.

Checking in to see what the latest preferences are for tire options? I see a lot of talk about gummy tires and thinking these would work for us given the trail conditions. Mitas Terraforce double green , and the Kenda ibex k774 seem to get good reviews, any thoughts?
    My bike is a YZ450FX, Andrew’s bike is a CRF250F

    Re: Bumpy tires again

I have a kenda Ibex on the back right now. It's good but wearing more quickly than the motoz gummy I had on before. I still use the tried and true m59 front.

    Re: Bumpy tires again

The Terraforce GG is a dandy. I have one on right now and it works super.. It's a lot more than an Ibex. For the Money the Ibex is the tits.
Like Paul says the M59 works great. If you want to play the field there is a Mitas that is really nice. I have one on now to try and it's probably the best front for overall work. Not something I would use for fast harder pack.

    Re: Bumpy tires again

i still can't run anything but IBEX F/R. just perfect for me in typical NE singletrack. they wear quick but i think pricing is fair. the front needs pressure though, 14psi is my sweet spot for avoiding rim hits.

a buddy of mine has been running the IRC Gekotta gummy but he's on the fence. stiffer sidewall than the IBEX, which he likes, but he's on a 300 running like 4psi consistently. before that he was on the IBEX 120 for a few seasons. i haven't had any troubles with the IBEX sidewall (110) running ~7-8psi on the 200. any lower and it gets too squishy on fast sections.

Spooned on some fresh IBEX front and rear knobs today. Just a few more days for the snow to melt, hopefully next weekend I can test it.
