    Re: Bumpy tires again

Cats seem to love the ibex. That whatever it was I got from you is holding up pretty well, despite being thrashed through the rocks of Freetown.
I have something wrapped in plastic, ready to replace it, but I’ll be damned if I can remember what it is now.

Mt16 wheels go on for Sunday though. Don’t fuck up a good thing.

Also, I think I’ve been watching too many insta-videos of graham Jarvis. I am clearly not him.

    Re: Bumpy tires again

sweet, can't wait to try the IBEX, i was waiting for the 110 to drop ... just hope it's not too square or overly squishy on it's edge ... Tractionator + Tubliss is a little weird when cornering sometimes at 5psi, it's requiring me to change my riding style a little but straight-line gnar = fantastico.

awesome to hear the Arena received the punishment it deserved

and Jarvis? fuck that guy not Human

Turns out I had bought myself a 505 to try. It also is rather gummy, and is picking up traction (puns, yay) with some of the netra folk.

    Re: Bumpy tires again

Coming back here to offer my two cents on the Dunlop AT81. The TE came with them and.... Does anyone want a new set of tires....

On the lawn they seem pretty good. In the woods on wet leaves and logs they deflect like a bitch. Way too stiff in my book. I will be going to the MT16 in the rear and probably the skinny version of the GT216 up front. I have that on the KTM and it sticks like glue in the wet slimy shit

so you're not going to try the Fatty on the Husky? still crazy to me that it was too fat on the pumpkin.

I will probably try it at some point. I liked the grip but felt that the bike choppered out a bit more than I liked. i tried raising the forks a bit but in the end the skinny version felt better. This machine is a whole new critter anyways.

    Re: Bumpy tires again

I still need to try the fatty, currently running MT16's front and rear. The rear seems to hook and go anywhere. I've had great front grip all the way up until I rode the baby heads at Freetown, although I'm not sure anything is actually going to grip. Either way, I reckon I need to see what all the fuss is about.

    Re: Bumpy tires again

that's the stuff it shines in, babyheads, sharp ledge, tall roots, etc ... but like Rada mentioned, it is tall and will require some tweaking to keep your cornering sharp (if that's a preference). the one thing i don't like about it is how it will climb out of certain ruts.

See, I like that. I have a nasty habit of cutting rutted corners too tight, wind up on the inside of the rut. With a lesser tire that always => washed front. Having something with that much side grip saves my bacon when I do dumb stuff.
I also suck at keeping the front light on rocky climbs. Bigger, more balloon like front helps with that, I think.

That said, I'm willing to try something different next time.

I will say that the Fatty deals with loose rocky down hills very well. The rut climb is especially apparent when running 5-6PSI.

    Re: Bumpy tires again

Isn't there two fatties? I don't see mention of this most places. If I remember right, one is wider and taller profile. The other is just wider, but maintains about the same profile.

A regular-width 216AA just arrived yesterday. Was planning on keeping it on-hand since my front's getting a bit worn. When I went to put it with the bike, I noticed a bunch of my knobs on my current M59 abandoned me after my last ride.

Is it possible some of that is a fast-n-twitchy front end? Some of that can be tuned out through suspension a bit.

90/90 looks like it would have the width of the 90/100 fatty but the height of the 80/100 standard front. Hmmmmm that might be interesting to give a try next time I need a new front tire.

My hesitation with the 90/90 is that "Hard to very hard pack part". I expect it would work well but I have had experience in the past with other tires that were hard pack centric that worked poorly in other types of terrain. Give it a shot and let me know because I think that size would be the tits.

I may, or may not, get around to finishing the install and wiring of heated grips on the 350.

Are you going with the heater elements that go under normal grips?

    Re: Bumpy tires again

the IBEX felt awesome today but i don't really have an opinion just yet ... new tires are always nice ... while we did ride rocks, we didn't really climb too much but the stuff we did it most certainly stuck to incredibly well. super happy it didn't feel like a loaf 'a bread at 5psi ... i believe i'm going to love it, just need more time + some wet.

OK, now i'm sold. 33mi today with a handful tech climbs/roots/babyheads/switchbacks. the IBEX is pretty damn sweet ... grip fer daze ... it won't last long, and i would still like to try it in the rain, but i'll def buy another.

the knobs feel like licorice to the touch
