    Chain Guide Question

So I swapped my chain and sprockets on my kx125 this afternoon. The new chain is a 520 x ring. The old chain was a non ring conventional 520. My new chain binds up in the chain guide. What should i do about this? Cut the plastic walls down or let the new chain do its thing? I'm a total newb to this stuff so input is much appreciated.

    Re: Chain Guide Question

The chain guide before the rear sprocket (bottom) or the the one on top of the swingarm pivot area? If it was minor rubbing, i'd say let it do it's thing. You just need to keep an eye on the master clip if you have one, the constant rubbing until the plasic wears out could pop the clip off

    Re: Chain Guide Question

Ya its the bottom chain guide. And that was one of my major concerns, the effect on the master link clip. Also any premature wear on the chain pins.

    Re: Chain Guide Question

At least make sure that the master link clip is on in the correct direction. That the wide end goes thru the plastic block first.

Ya I did that. Just concerned about how much is actually to rub on the guide

I'm certain its on correctly. However I fail to see how sprocket orientation has anything to do with chain width. Care to enlighten me?

His comment was related to chain alignment.
He was most likely picturing the chain rubbing only one side.

OK. That makes sense I suppose. However not the case. Its rubbing on both sides.

I can't tell you what you should do. I can only tell you what I've done. I just let the chain do it's thing.

I think that's the conclusion I've come to. Ill just make sure the clip is facing the correct direction so it doesn't get pulled off.

I know I guess I could have done that. I was under the impression that a conventional chain was not gonna last at all on dirt. Probably should have just paid 1/3 the price and replaced more often.

    Re: Chain Guide Question

I spend the $ on a Regina chain and have it last a while. Personal preference I guess. Just run it and the chain will do it's thing.

    Re: Chain Guide Question

I did the same thing earlier this season. After 10 minutes the guide is in the new shape of the chain. No issues.
