I think since you actually fell down, you're infamous. Or notorious. I was just a cameo spot talking trash. Is it ice time yet??

Damn son you have some hardware in there. How many screws/plates did they give you? They planning on leaving it all in there or going back in to take it out?

    I don't remember.

Seriously, which hit? The face plant right at the beginning was probably the worst head-ground hit in all of those. And that one was nicely absorbed the the duck-bill brim on the helmet. I cracked the brim on that one. After that trip I knew that helmet was due for replacement.

Really guys, in 9/10 of those dirt crashes I'm going in shoulder first. Never head first. The mic on the camera seems to make the hit sound worse than it was. None of the dirt crashes in that video resulted in anything that couldn't be treated with a couple ibuprofen, a hot shower and a cold beer. I don't know if I'm just lucky or good at crashing.

My grand total for injuries this year include two decent sprains and some road rash. Never even got my bell rung, even at the race track.
All in all, the experiences were well worth it. Would do it all over again.

Yeah, I knew that shrug had to make it into this somehow. Sums up his attitude riding with us clusterfucks quite well.

Had my ortho followup appointment. It turns out that if you drop your motorcycle on your ankle, sometimes a piece cracks off and just floats around in there. It mostly works and that's good enough right?

No, you need to get that piece fixed so your bike runs right. Anything less is shameful.

I replaced the hand guards as soon as I could walk. The bike is fine and runs great.
I read on the internet that you should never use your rear brake or you will crash and die.
So even though my ankle has spare parts, I'm good to go.

There are 2 real plates and a few more thin plates that just direct the screws. I counted 19 screws but they are kind of hard to see. Thee May be one or two more or less. The doc said she will likely take one plate out in a year. I'm hoping it doesn't have to happen. Fuck surgery.

Yeah the follow up to remove hardware was a bummer for me. I had gotten everything healed up and on the road back with OT when we discovered some of the hardware was protruding into the wrist joint. Doc said we'll go in and remove all the hardware, open everything all the way back up etc. I made the suggestion of, how about you just take out the pieces that are a problem and leave the rest alone. Grudgingly he agreed and only opened things up far enough to get the problematic hardware out. I think it helped keep my recovery time down and the hardware that I still have hasn't ever bothered me.

Either way, nice collection of hardware. Hope your OT gets things back to fully functional soon.

    Joel
