Both are about the same. The crf is a weights a little bit more. Upgrading the front end on both is pretty simple. The TTR is almost a bolt and go on the rear suspension also. I just finished doing a suspension swap on a TTR that I am building for mini motard.
Thumper Talk and Supermotojunkie have a lot of info on doing the conversions.
IMO, You would probably be better off looking for a TTR225 or a CRF230 for her.
You's guys abviously have no idea about the crf150 huh.
That thing will skool any ttr. And the crf230 is a fuckin slug.
Go with the crf150. It has the short skirt piston uni cam motor in it. The 230 is an air cooled slug.
Just sayin.

We dont need anything all out nuts, shes never ridden dirt before, so shell be slower than me (if thats possible). Just need something to get used to, and she didnt feel comfortable on the 250s cause of the height. So maybe a 150r if we can find one.
And isnt the 230 more of a duel sport kind of thing? Would that hold up on a MX trakc?
just get her an 80, not quite as easy to ride at first but can be putted around and can scream when she gets faster.

i'll be selling my ttr soon, but you're not local right?
Any of the MX bikes (CR80/100E, KX 80/100, CRF150R, etc.) will be difficult for a beginner to learn on. If they do spend time on these machines, and, over time, become proficient at riding them, they may be better off for it, but they will be frustrating for a true beginner. (Of them all, the RM has the best ranked power band, in terms of user friendliness).
The TTR 225 and CRF 230 are lower to the ground, and have e-start. These are important features for a true beginner. They are also very sturdy and can take a lot of tip-overs without ruining the day.
Do not bring a beginner to a MX track. Find some nice easy trails, or a field to start her off learning the basics.
80cc 2stroke faster than 125/150 4strokes. The main thing is the chassis/suspension though, not the motor. They are full on mini race bikes so they are setup to be good on an mx track. Like I said, not as user friendly at first but as the rider gets more comfy they will take anything on an mx track in stride. Also great size for someone around/over 5' tall.

The CRF150R has reliability issues.
In my opinion, either a KX100 or RM100 is the best bet. they are the same size as the 85 expert and have a little more torque.
You can spend big $$$ upgrading the play bikes only to find they are way down on power at the tracks.
We have had TTR 125s, (both sizes), KLX125, KLX140L, CRF150 and 230 and now a KX100. If you want any specific info, feel free to pm me.

Jen's in same boat as Leeza and loves our TT-R125. She wasn't liking what she say from 85cc MX bikes or the CRF150R MX bike...
