Going to change out sprockets - I run 14/51 right now and murder my clutch throughout the track. The popular setup is 13/50 for mx, so that should help quite a bit with everything.

New Rule: Last minute AM posts are not allowed! That would've sucked it if you guys mosy'd over to Paul's and I didn't know. Hopefully we all have cell numbers in case of changes like this. Phew
lots of clutch on your 250? I run 14/50 and its pretty sweet for me. I don't use the clutch much when practicing to preserve it but I don't seem to need it much unless I'm really trying to push corner speed.

i was gonna call or text you if something changed wasnt too worried about the crowd though, Sun racers dont really seem to pack in on Sat. there were more yellow plates than black from the last race wknd but we never even had a skill split, mixed it up all day.

looking forward to the next round.

i woke up in the middle of the night sweating cause i fell asleep in my clothes... went to take my shirt off an my arms didnt work so well

Bike was geared very tall when I got it - 14/53. I got very used to using the clutch to bring the pipe out quickly and smoothly. I geared it down 2 teeth, but still use it quite a bit when chasing someone (riding aggressively). I'm going to drop the front to a 13 for the $8 and see what it's like. I'm sure I'll see quite a difference but hope the front doesn't get too light. It's a very popular combo on the 02-03's.

Ummmmm 14/53 is SHORTER gearing than 14/51 and should be snappier and require LESS clutch. If you're needing that much clutch try one extra downshift. You shouldn't need to hammer the hell out of a clutch unless you're on a 250F 125 2stroke of you're an elite rider.

paul, I found a good spot not tooo far from you.

sounds like sundays races didn't cause a crowd on sat like I would have guessed... good deal.

    Of course - braincramp - 14/49 or 48)
If I gear shorter as I intended, I'm concerned I'd have lots of wheelspin and/or the front would get very light, very fast. The reason I don't downshift are for these reasons, but also because it's in an area where I'd need an upshift, and subsequent downshift too soon. I clutch to smooth out the hit, when say I'm exiting a turn and want to GO NOW, and where the distance to the next turn is far enough to get a good blast of WOT 3rd gear, before needing to downshift. How else do you manage these 2 strokes??

I am running 14/50 on the same bike and like that combo. I don't notice the hit as much as when I first got the bike. Either I have better throttle control now or I am carrying more speed so it doesn't feel like it hit as hard. I have messed around with needles and clip position some to, so that might of helped out some also.

Sounds like you're riding it like you're supposed to. Those clutches are designed to be used a lot. If you want to see what they're really capable of, go to Southwick when they're having an NESC race and watch (and listen) when Dowd, Treadwell, and Marshack (sp) go at it in the 125A race. Then remember that they are on 250 2-smokes. Basically wire the throttle WFO, use clutch entering the turns (never let off).

interesting...good to know slipping her is standard technique. Those guys have a tough time keeping up with me, so I don't hear their bikes much at all...

ya it was good watching them tool around. One of my last sessions I happened to be out there when they pulled over to switch bikes and they started up behind me. Johnson was behind me for like 5 corners/straights with jumps that probably weren't that safe to pass on and it was freaking me out. That 450 sounded MEAN wanting to get by me haha
