Won’t be of much use since it’s not a mass start...SPRINT enduro means running shortish sections by yourself.

My advice: work on endurance beforehand and resist the urge to take extended breaks between sections because you can run out of time to complete them all. Consider running the extreme section early in your session when it’s a little less slimy. Make sure your bike has suitable tires with good life, and make sure the bike has all the guards and don’t skimp on riding gear. No need to run more gas than necessary, better to keep the bike light, especially up high. Hydrate and eat right beforehand; even though it isn’t a continuous moto, it’s plenty grueling.

Sprints are fun as hell, low pressure, near zero risk of getting taken out and/or run over, you will have a blast. Good luck!

No matter what physical shape you're in now, get in better shape. You'll thank me!

    Re: J Day Sprint Enduro

    awesome!

what these guys said... + bring ~$200 cash with you for the first one, pretty sure i hit ~$140 very fast for parking/membership/reg/transponder.

JDay is nice in that you can do any order you want for your Sprints which are 3 different courses, Grass/Woods/Extreme, 3x ea for a total of 9 laps. NETRA didn't allow you to do that.

def echo the don't break too long comment from 'Beek... it will only make you rush at the end of the day if you're interested in placing.

for general practice before an event, like trail riding, work on your GAS / BRAKE skills and endurance. the courses can have a lot of quick turns which makes for SUPER arm pump immediately, even if you tell yourself you're just gonna cruise. it's a lot of off/on and clutch work. also practice brake slides while standing. corners can be rooty.

get there early, fuel your body, reg > tech > riders meeting > freeform day from there. eyeball where each Sprint course begins and make a plan of attack, e.g. i'm gonna do two grass tracks to warm up then go from there. there will be lines so that might dictate which course you tackle first.

super fun stuff, very challenging but the format cant be beat.

i see Southwick is first one in May... might join ya!

    Re: J Day Sprint Enduro

Have you been to any Jday, NETRA, or similar events before? There can be waiting lines to sign liability forms and pay fees at both the entry to the venue and at the sign up booth. Give yourself plenty of time. Do as much pre-event sign up and payment as possible. One less thing to worry about day-of. Clean your helmet the night before the first race where you'll get a transponder. Particularly under the visor. Am I remembering correctly that you need the helmet at the sign up booth?

Might want to have tools to change a flat just in case. Though I think there is a tire vendor on-site who offers the service too.

yup and yup ... but Sprints are really the best way to try out this type of racing. tons of opportunity to fix/changeup/breath vs longer races. (kinda pissed JDay cornered the market)

Despite how difficult I found the actual race -- which is to say, extremely difficult -- everyone at the race was super friendly, and the race organizers themselves were great to deal with and very welcoming of newcomers.

    Re: J Day Sprint Enduro

In terms of gear and protection.

Gear: neck brace is the only thing I'm missing. I might get a new chest protector (leaning towards one of the leatt chest neck combo)

Protection: Bark busters ( stock ktm hand guards are pretty lame), I currently dont have any brake protection I think it would be a good idea. Am I missing anything? I have skid plate and pipe guard.

Also how could I forget! Ill need new tires. I was talking to a guy who did one last year he went with a fatter tires on his bike I road his and it was PLANTED but it was also a 4 stroke
(sorry I dont want to turn this into a tire thread)

    Re: J Day Sprint Enduro

You definitely want real hand guards.
I like the traditional style much better than the cycras, personally. I run the heel of my hand against them, and the cycras leave me feeling naked.

When you say Cycras leave you feeling naked are you referring to the ProBend Cycra barkbusters?

    Re: J Day Sprint Enduro

the standard EE busters are super tough and stay put, highly recommend ... just make sure you either anti-seize or blue Loctite the interior clamp + front bolts. the hardware gets tweaked, dry and tarnished over time, makes for easier assembly/disassembly. i've had mine for 7+ yrs on two diff bikes, well worth the investment.

on that topic, add the threaded bar end inserts when you do guards, the wedge style inserts suck. every year i keep meaning to do this and always forget... until i have to remove my guards. maybe i'll order those today. (prob not)

on tires, right, it's all preference but ... maybe give the Shinko 216MX Fat front and 525 Cheater rear a try. lower cost way to try out the hot stuff. a few of us are running similar combos in different brands but Sideshow on here is running this exact set up. he might chime in with some input.

I didn't see it mentioned yet, but make sure you pre-register online. They close the pre-entry online at some point prior to the race so don't wait till the last minute. Some of the classes fill up fast, it's amazing how many riders show up to the more popular locations like Southwick.
What class are you signing up for?

30+ is vet, 40+ is senior, 50+ is super senior, 60+ is masters.
