    dent in my pipe

I have an FMF gnarly pipe on my 2-stroke KTM, put a fairly small dent in it a few years ago. Now when I rev the engine the pipe rattles around. It's like a mix between a rattle and a buzz, only after I rev the bike as the rpm's are dropping.

I'd like to take the dent out, and have heard of people putting air in the pipe and then putting heat to the dent. Question is, what kind of fitting do I need to come up with to put some pressure in this thing? Just looking to know if anyone came up with a trick or an easy way of hooking the compressor to an exhaust. Thanks fuckers.

Where in the pipe is the dent? Header/can?

Up high on the fat part of the header. I'll give the ice a go, thanks.

I have a massive gash in my pipe from my last ride at Clough (along with a nasty case of bursitis in my right shoulder.....grrrr). I have heard there are places that repair pipes with dents. Anyone know?

Look in the back of any MX magazine. I think there are a couple places in Mass/Conn area that used to repair pipes. Or, get rubber stoppers in the proper size, drill one one and thread an air chuck, pressurize pipe (probably use a regulator and start 25-30psi at first), heat with torch, watch dent pop out.

    Re: dent in my pipe

There is a place in Derry, NH that can remove the dent for you. Look for HT pipe repair on the net. If you want to do it yourself, it can be done. Forget about the ice. I usually heat the area of the dent first, and then add pressure with nitrogen. The gnarlys kind of suck to blow dents out of because of the heavier gauge metal. I have gone as high as 60 psi with the gnarly on my 200. You will need something to block both ends of the pipe. For the inlet I usually use a rubber automotive freeze plug, with the other end I have a 1/4 hvac shraeder fitting with a piece of hose that I can tighten down over the outlet of the pipe. It should be mentioned, while you have psi in the pipe, don't point the freeze plug, or the other end at anything you don't want to kill. When they come out while pressurized, they are going fast. I heat, then add psi. Pressurizing first with compressed air, then heating is pretty dangerous.
It is easiest to just pay the huy in Derrry to do it, but what fun is that.

It's a small dent, but the huge fucking rattle started when I made the small dent, so I thought they might be related. I really don't know if that's it, just figured I'd start there.
