2005 KTM 250 EXC

That looks like a great deal to me. I have the bigger brother (300 EXC) from the same year and I paid $3000 with roughly the same amount of extras but more miles and more hours.

I think the 05 250 exc would be a great bike for what you said you want, but I wouldn't call it a screaming deal at 2700. He said offers welcome; show up with 2250 or even less, if you are a good negotiator. Sounds like the kind of owner you want to buy from, based on the ad, but it's an 11 year old dirt bike, and there are tons of them out there. He knows it's priced high, hence the invitation for offers....

The dial tone for small dirt bikes is the Honda CRF100F. $1,100 to $1,500 used. The larger models have electric start but weigh more.

Gotta decide if you want one to also ride on the road, more weight and cost but more flexible.

The one nice thing is that it definitely has a license plate - that adds value if OP is looking to do enduros or hare scrambles.

Drum brakes are not an issue at all. I started on an 86 xr100 back in the day. Great first bike! Learned so much riding that thing! Reliable and easy to work on.

The advantage of a platable bike is for skipping between trails and/or running turkey runs. It isn't so you can street ride it. A good woods or dirt bike sucks on the street.

So I ended up getting my daughter an xr100r. Brakes aren't great but they'll be fine. It is a bit tall for her but she can tippy toe both feet at the same time, do you think that is ok?

Yeah it'll be fine. Dirt bike brakes aren't supposed to be like street bike brakes because there's less traction. If you can lock them up in the dirt they are fine.

Perfect bike for almost anyone to grow into, IMO. If she's uncomfortable on it as is, there are some things that can be done to reduce seat height, but plenty of people are tiptoed on both sides of their dirtbike...or worse.

Sweet! I hope so. Did some work with her tonight just getting comfortable having the bike fall to one side and saving it.

Like me... I have to get a running start and jump on my bike! Seat height is at my nipples.

Get something newer. Suspensions are a lot better in newer models, and it's a lot easier to get parts.
