    Dirt is the shit

3rd season riding dirt and wow great times! Such a blast! What a great way to learn how to ride a motorcycle sideways and make it work! At 1st this 350 was a bit abrupt on trails but it’s a blast now! Loving it.

I bought my first dirt bike a few months ago to ride with my son and his Honda 50. It is fun, but man was I sore after the first day! You use muscle you don't use when on a street bike!

    Re: Dirt is the shit

If you really want to learn to control a sliding bike try flattrack. All dirt disciplines inform the others, but flattrack is the fundamentals pushed to the limit. MX is also great for learning to overcome big obstacles at speed and to control a bike in the air, which is the best feeling. Woods riding is more diverse and less repetitive, making the learning slower. Imo

    Re: Dirt is the shit

Agree with the flat track comment 100% plus its STUPID cheap to get into a small bike and some track time at WVRC.

The biggest boost I got from woods riding as it translated to road racing wasn't so much a particular skill, just improving confidence when things change quickly/unexpectedly. It could be anything from loss of traction to another rider doing something unpredictable close to me, woods made me more comfortable in those situations.

Or - Buy some slotted hex washer head sheet metal screws, and ride on some frozen lake or pond this winter. It is (nearly) free, and will afford you nearly the same traction/sliding experience as flat track- albeit in a colder environment...

Ice is awesome. Perhaps my favorite discipline. But the traction is very different. Almost opposite to the rest of the world. The harder you push, the more traction you have. Flatttrack is not that way at all! hahaa. It's similar technique, but sooo much tougher and less forgiving of mistakes.

Dirt is so great for so many reasons. Mostly it's about finding great riding buddies and going on great rides whether home or abroad.
