Does that motor still have a points ignition? The gap may need adjusting. That can act like carb issues.

I just looked at the pics. That thing brings back fond memories. Sweet Find
thanks man!
Can't wait to ride it
if you're looking for something else to do before you ride, tighten down all your fasteners!
I went out today with the XR200R and this time the clutch perch kept sliding every time you went to squeeze the lever
hahah thanks
i think ive done everything I could do to this bike
Great job, Mike. What a huge difference from what you started with.

Painted all matte black like that I can't help but think of the bikes the asian mafia guys ride in all those B-flicks! haha.
Nice work getting it all together mate. Know it was a lot of hard work and moola but it'll make that first ride all that much better.
A lot of times people look at the beginning of a project like this and think... why bother? My garage is one good example... what a shithole that turned into a great little shop.
People like you and me who would rather do something themselves the hard way and have it be done right make those people eat their words when it's all over... good work Mike :drink:
I hear ya Chris, but believe me with the money I spent I coulda bought a nicer newer one. But I wouldn't have learned half the shit I did or have the satisfaction of knowing that I fixed it and the fun that went along with it
cant wait to hump it
how's next weekend lookin for ya, ankle-wise?
for the next 2 weekends I'm free, but after that the the earliest I can make a ride is Dec 12th
do you mind riding dirty in the cold? you don't go that fast in the woods, and you're moving a lot...and I'm a total dirty noob, so I'm pretty slow anyways
hahah I am too and I got a trailer we could use so you don't have to pack up your stuff in your car. The leg feels fine....this weekend might be pushing it but next weekend is a most definite
I just need to grab some boots and im good to go
just got my xr250r and painted it matte black. it suits well until it rubs off, haha. now if only i could get it running right!
Giving this thread a bump. Basically, I have this bike right now.
Let me tell you... this thing needed a TON of work.. and still is not 100% fixed. Although pretty damn close!
So when I got it this thing was puffing white smoke like it was it's job. It idled, but twist the throttle and the smoke came billowing out. So I knew right away, this thing is burning oil and likely has a toasted set of piston rings. Ripped off the jug, checked the end gap, and it measured 3X the service limit for both compression rings.
Also found out it had a 0.5 mm overbore Wiseco high comp rounded piston. The piston itself was in good shape. Ordered a set of wiseco rings, re-ground and lapped the valves and seats, replaced valve seals. The works.

oh shiet...you actually got Mondo's old bike!
I just got one too...2007 XR250R...low hours...
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...7/CAM00712.jpg
never rode one except for gamorg's for a short stint...gonna see if the local rental company can find use with this thing, otherwise going to do a couple trail days then sell it
xr250r sold you that bike glad that you got it going....
not sure about xr250R...but I haven't touched mine...couldn't get it to fire at all...compression feels low so I'm going to crack it and do a top end
you want to do a build thread on yours to motivate me to rebuild mine? lol
Mondo sold hus bike to scottie, then he sold it to me. I stored it for a time, then sold to the guy , xr250r last year
