Figure my budget is cheap enough that it won't impact me returning to racing LRRS this year, either by repairing my 520, or beg/borrow/stealing someone else's ride.

    Aka CHEAP.

That said, I'm still curious... pm me

I'm thinking $1k or below. Ideal would be a $1 box of parts that when assembled will be a complete bike. : ) I have wrenches, I know how to use them, and will have space to use them, what I'll lack is those funny green slips of paper everyone covets.

There's an 05 125sx on New England Dirt Bike for $1600, so they do come up from time to time.

    I have a 1999 YZ400 for sale for $1500.

New handlebars (1-1/8), tires, oil filter, air filter.

Chain and sprocket are still good.

    Bike is in good condition.

Swing by the house some time and you can take the cr125r out on the river. She's studded and ready to go.

    Re: Dirty bike options

I have no desire to read all the threads, so I'll just add that if I could go out and buy a dirty bike right now, it'd be wunna the 250 4-strokes that're out there...

If I hadn't ridden dirt in 20 years, I'd probably still be of that thought. I wouldn't wanna go out and get something small/underpowered only to 'outgrow' it in a season. A 250 around here would fit the bill perfectly. Small & nimble enough to take my time getting comfortable on, yet powerful enough for most NH trails that I wouldn't get bored with it's power...

See, thats part of why I'm asking opinions. The KTM 105 appealed to me 'cause it's lighter than a 125 2 stroke / 250 4 stroke by a good amount, and well, I'm a small guy. I'm used to small bikes, hence asking if it'd be something I'd 'outgrow' or not. I really like the idea of a KTM 125 2 stroke now too given that wheels will swap with my track mount. And after owning lots and lots of 4 stroke singles, a 2 stroke sounds like a fun change and I won't complain about the lack of valve adjustments.

On the flip side, my budget right now means I'm likely to be stuck with a worn pair of Sketchers as my 'dirt mount'. : )

    Re: Dirty bike options

if you dont mind the smaller ride then another thing to consider is that the ktm105 won't be like getting a 125 4stroke or small 'play' bike

aka: it'll fuckin rip if you open it up.

I'm hardly tall myself - maybe not as short as you though, I dunno. Oddly enough, I DON'T want a bike that would allow me to firmly plant both feet flat on the ground. I'd want something I'd hafta lean to one side to touch down on. Don't even ask, I don't know why...

    Re: Dirty bike options

Heh, I'm not short at 5' 10", but I am, well, built like a runway supermodel with an eating disorder... As has been noted before, spandex underarmor isn't supposed to be 'baggy'... : ) So it's the weight that has been the primary thing I've been looking at initially.

    Re: Dirty bike options

I don't know if it's odd or not. But I'd also want a machine that intimidates me if I were to get a dirty bike. Again, don't ask me why. It's just wunna those things. Maybe something 'too tall' and intimidating is my way of keeping in-check. I dunno...

You aint much skinnier than me, and I've had no issue running a 250 4stroke around. Can take it for a rip in the spring if you wanna get an idea about it.

I couldn't find a pic of a clapped out old school BMX. This was on a UK antique shop website.

Damn, you'd think with everything on the web I could find a pic of my old mountain bike somewhere... Nope. Ye Olde Western Flyer Pro Mountain. Absolute TANK. Someone finally stole it from me in Portland, never to be seen again.

Ehh..I have to admit that a 250 4 joke kinda bores me. I have to have a 2 smoker between my legs to make me happy. That might just be me though.
