    Re: Dirty bike options

Hrmm... only a 125, but I've got wheels that should work on it already (Ice tires?) and there are KTM places locally so it's likely going to be easier to keep in repair than the Cagiva. I'll email the guy and see what kind of shape he claims the bearings/etc are in, unless you're game for checking it out for me?

BTW, am I still going to be checking out that TTR for you or is the YZ85 chassis project superceeding the TTR? : ) (KX85 and KX100 for sale on my road if either of those will work instead, I can get pics/etc tomorrow for you.)

    Re: Dirty bike options

I can check it out if you want but he might be just as close to you.

I got the TTR125, hence looking for a YZ85 chassis and 17" wheels, and maybe some set up geometry numbers so that I can go after Aaron.

Those appear to be for a VC not an EXC. EXC is 202lbs but I don't know what the hp #'s are. One of my custumers has a 1999 125 EXC and it is not a bad bike. It is pretty tired and needs a rebuild but it is a fun bike in the woods.

Kurlon, I don't know much about the 1991 ktm's, but the 2003 model that tall Joey rides is closer to 30hp. PK also rides a 2003~2004 125 SX and he never seems to be lacking power.

    Re: Dirty bike options

That WR250 caught my eye last night actually. Specs seem decent (220lbs, 45hp or so?) and a few reports that it is luggable due to gearing/motor tune? I'm assuming that I'm not able to ride it hard enough that a day in the dirt at MX207 is going to kill it?

    Re: Dirty bike options

The motor has a heavy fly wheel which gives it lugging ability. I am sure the transmission gearing helps also. It can take a day or two at the MX track. There is a guy at my local track that is there just about everyday with a WR250F. He just turns his compression adjustments up for the day. When you get to the point that you are launching 40+' doubles you will need to start worrying about suspension.

    Re: Dirty bike options

The only thing I have heard about the 2-stroke WR's is that some of them have the ceramic coated cylinders, and are very expensive to replace if they get damaged. You might want to do a little research on that before jumping on it.
I have had some cylinders re-chromed or sleeved, but I have never messd with a ceramic one, nor have I heard of any re-coating options.
This ad indicates that the motor was just "rebuilt', but you might want to ask more detailed questions about that.

Edit: BB shows the cylinder at about $500, the piston at $110, and the rings at $90

94 cr125 is hard to beat. Get it for 600 bucks. parts are plentiful and relatively cheap. bike is easy to ride and very woods-able. That one likely needs bearings and such.

    Re: Dirty bike options

It's down to that RM vs the 1994 WR250 in my neck of the woods. $600 for the RM, needs swingarm bushing kit but has extras, weighs a ton (250lbs DRY). The WR is a bit milder due to heavier flywheel, woods suspension setup, and lighter (220lbs DRY) but $100 more and the tires are old.

The weight numbers I found for the RM are for the 1991 RMX, did they make an RM in 91?

Yes they made an RM in 91, dry weight is 249lbs, that is the same as my YZ.

Swing arm bearing kit about $65

    Re: Dirty bike options

So, before I pull a trigger, am I correct in noting plastics are not readily available for the RM? The WR takes 1993 YZ250 plastics AFAIK and it looks like UFO makes them for it.

...I hate making decisions like this dangit. : )
