Dirty Boots - what do you like/dislike?

    Boot Brand/model/riding style - comment

Looking into Sidi crossfire to get a replaceable sole, but am also interested in Fox Instinct but need more than a season or two out of them to justify cost.

    cut and paste:

    1. Fly/Kinetic Boots/Moderate MX - great articulation, low end boot, would most likely last a while on trail, but coming down off many jumps has worn through the sole; missing a buckle.
    2. Thor/lowend/Moderate MX - no articulation, heavy, traditional sole broke down where kick starter hits the boot.
    3. Alpinestars/Tech 3/Moderate Trail - good articulation & weight, boot material cracked at flexpoints with very few hours on them. (posted friend's experience)

One of the regulars when I was working tried the instincts and had them fall apart after a few rides. He was disgusted by them. Just one opinion I heard.

Currently: sidi crossfires. The Cadillac of boots. If you don't have really narrow feet, don't bother, you'll hate them. (Unless they make them in wider widths, dunno)
A*t3: comfy as heck, all but exploded from woods riding.
Msr/oneal/other junk boots: good for protection if that's all you can afford, but ride like those wooden clogs from the Netherlands.

Gaerne sg10: the industry standard for n.e. woods boots. The mx guys seem to like the 12's too.

I have the entry level Gaerne. I think it's the Gx1. It's my first dirty boot so I don't have much to compare with. But for me it's holding up very well. It did melt a little on my the pipe of my old bike. I figure any boot would have though. It was instantly comfy with no break in and seems to give adequate protection. I like it so much I got Gaerne gp-1's for the track.

I hate you... i have flinstone feet. I did wear sidi vertigos road racing and they felt good... they were quite a bit softer though for break in. I should look into widths.

Sorry dude, but that's just too much money to not like a boot like that.

Anybody near you have a pair to try on?

Re: Dirty Boots - what do you like/dislike?

A* tech 7 - mx riding- held up pretty well but took a long time to break in and not much feel of shifter/brake. Otherwise comfortable with decent protection.

Fox mid level (can't remember exact model) - mx- very comfortable with good feel, short break in, decent protection.

My next boots will most likely be Sidi's mid level boot. I just can't justify spending the money on the top level boots when they aren't going to last any longer than the mid level stuff (around $300-400). A friend of mine swears by A* tech 8s, but again they are a lot of money.

Crossfires! On trick is to buy boot a half size big to get room in the toe box, then install Superfeet green insoles to take up the extra volume. Most comfy fit ever...
