About 10 years ago, RI was very close to getting some orv trails. Sadly all the hard work from everyone at the time, went waisted because 3 user groups of the trails (dirt bikes, atv's, and 4x4 trucks/jeeps) couldn't work with each other to get it done.

It's 90% buttoned back up. I even washed the air filter! Just have to put the plastics back on, hook up the fuel lines and make sure it (still) starts.

Re: Let's get dirty...check here for rides.
Anyone want to make a plan for next weekend at HVD? I have Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon as available hall pass slots.

What's the forecast for Southwick tomorrow? Google says rain..
-
Re: Let's get dirty...check here for rides.
Just supposed to be showers early tomorrow. I'm more worried about an inch or two today. Southwick drains great...until it doesn't.

I just looked at the weather today. Ugh.. you're right, looks like rain all day today.
I guess Wareham could be a Plan B, and NHMX a Plan C?
Winchester Speedpark has racing so that's out.

Re: Let's get dirty...check here for rides.

I ruined the new tube when putting it back in the Honda. I have never been so fucking frustrated in my life.

hahaa. once you learn that skill, swappin donuts, you have made it in life as a dirt biker :D
baby powder, good irons, a stand and tiny bites are your friend. filling the tube until it almost doesn't fold on itself is also important. zero pressure = easier to pinch.
-
Re: Let's get dirty...check here for rides.
technique is 95% of changing tires.
sincerely, a squid who's pinched a few tubes.

Re: Let's get dirty...check here for rides.
From Southwick's FB page:
"Open practice for this coming Saturday, May 6, has been canceled. In excess of 2 inches of rain will fall through Friday into Saturday. There will be no opportunity to grade the track. Sorry, kids."

I have two of these Motion Pro extra-long tire irons, though I could probably use one more. I also have a combination spoon/axle wrench which is too short to be useful.
I don't know what I did wrong, but I almost certainly nicked/punctured the tube when trying to lever the tire back into the bead.

I watched a bunch of YouTube videos, it helped but.. I could use someone showing me the ropes in person.
Check out this video of a guy from Dunlop doing it. He takes about 2 minutes..

i prefer to use 3 of the 10.5" spoon type from MotionPro. one massive beast of an iron can help too if the bead + carcass is a gnarly one, like some off-road specific tires that are real stiff, but 3 shorties works well for me. the spoon tip is curved nice and soft, less likely to grab.

not sure if you've seen this vid but i like this kids method, pasting below. watching a tire guy do it can be frustrating, they change that shit all day long. that's the technique Chip is referring to. get your system down and you're in.
even though my changes generally go smooth, they're never super fast. right tools + tiny bites + patience = success (most times) :D
i love how he's doing this on a bucket filled with filty oil... in slippers. that shit would be all over my garage floor.

Re: Let's get dirty...check here for rides.
These motion pro shortie levers are meant for a trail toolkit. But they are mint because they have this little lip that just hooks on the edge of the wheel. Keeps you from sticking the tip too far in. And we all know what happens when you stick the tip in too deep.
